Hi, I haven't posted in awhile. I have had a picc line in since last Aug 2007. I have done Rocephin, Doxyclcline, Zithromax, and am now on Cefepime. I really don't feel any better then when I started. My CD-57 results were 46 this past March 08. So it's chronic Lyme.
I have had testing through Igenex for co-infections. (Babesiosis IgM Igg, Bartonella IgM IgG, Ehrlichosis HME andHGE IgM IgG) These were sent by myself in test tubes provided. Tests were negative.
Is it possible to have false test results for Lyme co-infections? I know that you can have false reports for Lyme, I figured that the co-infections might hide as well.
My LLMD is also concerned that since I have been sick (Jan 06) I have high hemoglobin, hematorcrit, and a slight increase in my red blood cells. He is thinking possible Polycythemia Vera. So were doing some testing. I'm only 41 years old. Anybody else have thick blood with Lyme disease?
My symptoms daily are, severe tinnitus, dizziness, depression, foggy brain, rapid heart rate, always feel like I'm starving for air, and many more..
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank You

Hey stan the man...
Welcome back... and sorry you are feeling so rough.
Tis late and I was closing down... so just giving you a quick look-over right now... without a lot of details.
1. Sounds like possible Babesiosis (fair to good chance)... and even possible Bartonella. Try Quest Antibody Panel which tests for several strains of Bartonella.
2. Yes, thick blood is quite common with Lyme/coinfections.. many have this problem. Various things can be done to address it. Once fixed... you feel much better.
3. Yes.. false-negs do happen for various reasons... one being the thick blood. One being the use of antibiotics before testing. One being there can be 20 plus strains of the organism but tests don't detect but one or two.
Sorry I am not blah blah blah tonight. Usually you can't shut me up. Others will be along to help later.
Good to see you doing your homework too. Feel better soon!

The girl who was drawing my blood 2 years ago commented on how fast my blood clotted in the tube. My veins would collapse after only a vial or two, and within two seconds, it had clotted. She wouldn't call the doctor though and add any clotting tests.
I test positive for Lyme and babesia. By basically avoiding most foods, my blood seems to have thinned out some.
I'm 41 as well, and I'm a hypercoagulator and have tested positive for Lyme, EBV, Mycoplamsa Pnuemoniae, and Candida.
I can't remember my numbers but had a Thrombitic Marker panel done and my Fibrinogen and D-Dimer were high. I'm not sure what my hemo numbers were.
I have done a 3 month round of heparin 10,000 iu shots 2x a day and several months later a one month round of the same.
Each time my blood thinned out nicely. I've not had it tested since I've finished with ABX (haven't done Lyme ABX yet) treatments for other infections.
I never felt better after Heparin treatment. My LLMD would ask me if I felt better as an indicator of genetic predisposition or as a result of the infections.
My blood thickness sounds different than what your doctor is investigating. Have you had a Thrombotic Marker Panel done?
Sorry you feel so poorly and hope you get to feeling better soon!

Did you see a hematologist? I had a picc line in for 10 days and developed 3 dvts in the arm where the picc line was placed. I am 35 and healthy - no history of blood disorder. My llmd is working with a hematologist to find out why I formed the clots bc this is not typical for picc lines. Hope you can find a good one.(btw, I am on lovenox injections now to prevent future clots and the 3 that I developed cleared in about a week with no problem after I began lovenox)

Hi bigstan, just found this thread. Did you find out the cause of elevated hemoglobin, hematocrit, RBCs? I have the same thing. Thanks!
