OK, so I started taking 200mg Diflucan this morning, and I feel YUCKY! Is this normal so soon? Should I take a lower dose maybe for now? I do have a lot of yeast in my system; you can see it in my live blood smears......I have been prescribed 200mg every other day.

I ended up calling in and not going to work....pretty queasy (I took it with food), and about hour 2 to 3 after I took it was REALLY sleepy, I also have a slight headache....

Very normal if you have yeast!!! If you'll watch your diet closely at the same time, the herxing will be lessened somewhat.

Hope you feel better soon!!! [group hug]

Diflucan is purported to treat both lyme and yeast so you may get a double whammy.

One can get really sick when treating either yeast or lyme but both together could be very difficult. I would call my doc and ask if it's OK to start at a lower dose and work my way up, especially if you need to be able to work.

I was on Nystatin until recently, when I had the live blood done and all the yeast was in there (this is very interesting if you haven't ever seen it), my NP decided I needed Diflucan since it penetrates more. I am on a gluten free diet and am SUPER strict with it, so I should be ok there.

Just really thinking I need to go at this a little easier. It is amazing how our bodies tolerate high doses of some things and low doses of others.....another one for me is Zithro, so I am pulsing it every 3rd day now instead of everyday; believe me it kills critters, but my body does NOT like it (rather the critters don't). The first two weeks I took it I went from 0 EM's to 6 EM's.......

Is there a name for the live blood test? I would be interested in having that done. Also - what is an EM?

EM is a bull's eye rash........I never had any before I started treatment (or when I was infected), and it is suspected I have had it since I was 17 or 18 and I am 31 now.

The live blood testing is done through a lot of Naturopath's offices; there are some Doctors who do it. My Nurse Practitioner does it here in Oklahoma........it is very interesting....I saw all kinds of bacteria (tick-borne)in my blood as well as yeast and mycoplasma....

If problems persist it may be helpful to have a stool test run through Doctor's Data Lab. It will tell you specifically what kind of yeast you have as well as it's sensitivity or resistance to both pharmacological and natural treatments.

My docs gave me Diflucan forever and the Candida I have is resistant to Diflucan. Nystatin powder is also much more effective for me than the pills. Hope this helps.

Hi Tiffany,

when i first started taking diflucan (had some GI candida at the time after 8 months of orals) i had incredibly strong die off. i started on the 200mg a day my doc prescribed but was sick for a week afterwards. i kept scaling down the amount until i was talking half a tablet a week instead of two a day and that packed quite a punch. over time as i killed off the candida i could tolerate more and now i can take the full dose no probs and candida probs are gone. so dont be afraid to take it slow is my message. at least in my experience Diflucan is very powerful so take it at your own pace:)

you have all my sympathy for the die-off, i hated candida die off nearly more than lyme herxes they made me feel so sick and exhausted. it will pass though dont worry:)
