Well finally saw my new Dr. and he is fabulous!! He hit me with both barrels when he saw my test results though.
Amoxycillin 1000mg 4x a day, Zithromycin 500mg 3x a day, Valtrex (for Epsteins Barr)1gr 2x a day, and Flagil 1x a day.
I started this regime Last week Thursday, and starting on Saturday morning started the diarrhea, really don't want to have to get to involved with grossing you all out but it happens all day and at least 10 times a day. Posts: 17 | From rockford, illinois | Registered: Apr 2008

I really have no idea, but I don't know if this is normal, the diarrhea I mean.
When I was on Zith, it also made me do this and I had to get off of it. My stomach just did not agree with it at all. I had to get off it and start Biaxin in place of the Zith.

oh boy!!! Yogart, acidophilios pills. The Dr. should have told you about what to expect. You really need to watch your diet very carefully when your assalting your system like that.
I'm very new here but I do know about that reaction. I get it whenever I take antibiotics.
My daughters LLMD put her on a very restrictive diet. No milk, no wheat, no sugar, only sm amts of fruit etc.
If I were you I would talk to your doctor about what to do.

I did start eating some yogurt, and stayed away from dairy, but wow is my body not agreeing with me lately.
I called my Dr.s office and he is stopping all antibiotics for now, and is calling in something, will let you know what it is.
Anyone else have this many meds to start? Posts: 17 | From rockford, illinois | Registered: Apr 2008

yogurt is dairy There are not enough bacteria in a yogurt to replace the ones you kill with the abx. You need to take at least 10 billion units a day 2 x a day You can also add S Boulardii which stops diarrhea in it's tracks. Was it your LLMD that rx you all these abx?
I cannot deal with Zithro also. The few times I took it, I had stomach trouble.
Also, it's VERY important to keep your carbs low and eat a clean diet (No caffeine) when you're on abx.

Yes my LLMD prescribed all of it for me but wants me to stop it all for now. Wants me to go to the er for a test called Costridum Difficilli.
OOh this just keeps getting better. I read the treatment for this is Flagil, but I already was taking this drug. Posts: 17 | From rockford, illinois | Registered: Apr 2008

Wish I spoke to lymetoo earlier for the like on the probotics, do you think if its a positive test it would be too late to start taking it now?

Another suggestion for when you do start back on abx, start one at a time. Give it several days to see how you react before adding in another med, and so on.
This way you know which med is causing the problem and can eliminate only that one.
I agree that a good probiotic is absolutely necessary. Yogurt will never be enough to keep the yeast at bay from all those abx.

AGREE!! I just noticed that you took 1500mg of zith in one day! IF I'm not mistaken, that is WAY high.
Anybody agree??
Then on top of that, you have the other meds. Yikes!

Hate to sound negative, but any LLMD who rx that many abx and does not tell you to take probiotics should not be an LLMD. Yeah he wants you to get tested for c diff because he gave u too many abx with no back up
Probiotics are the staple to any abx diet.
Also, you don't need to be on abx to take probiotics. Our poor intestines are abused daily so I take them (10 billion units a day) even when I'm not on abx.

If you have c diff you will need flagyl or vancomycin and they will give you the S Boulardii I suggest you take S boulardii anyway

amoxicillin can cause lots of the runs in people, my better half had it the whole time she was on it. it lasted an extra day after she stopped.

Well my Dr. sent me to the Er for fluids after water only diet was giving me the runs. Due to concerns of dehydration. He said we need to get this under control. So I went... waited 4 hours to be seen.
Waited another hour before a Dr. came into the room. Then asked for a sample...which i can do on demand now.
Then Er. Dr. said ok I will now call your regular Dr. could you believe it he didn't answer!! So I waited longer!! I had a friend watching my 3 kids at home. And no one did anything!! I am truely on my own on this. Just me and my new lymenet family!
Thank You for all of your help. Posts: 17 | From rockford, illinois | Registered: Apr 2008

Yes, probiotics are a must, as soon as possible!
The only time I had severe case of the runs, I used VSL#3 and Florastor. I highly recommend both! Also I like Nature's Way Prodopholis, and Jarrow probiotic products.
My advice, based on my experience, is to get a few different types of probiotics and take them often! Best wishes.

Your zith dose is high ... my LLMD is very aggressive and prescribes multiple abx at one time, yet I only take 250 mg zith twice daily.
Be sure to take saccharomyces boulardii to prevent C. Diff.
Also take massive probiotics, yogurt is not enough for someone on long term abx.
I take Theralac, Ultra Flora, and when I have problems with diarrhea, I also take VSL#3. (All are available online).

I'm having the same problem. I just got DXed last month and was put on 250 mg a day of Zith. for the first month (he said my Lyme load is so high that I have to start off very slowly) Then I had my appointment yesterday and he asked if I was having diahrrea and I told him no. So he put me on 500mg on odd days and 250 on even days. That very night (last night) it started. Ohhhh Lordy! Misery! So if this continues for very long I'll have to call and let him know. I sure can't go on this way!

Krissy... Make sure you take the probiotics 2 hrs away from any abx.
So you didn't find out if you have c.diff? I would guess that you don't. Just counting on the fact that you weren't on the abx very long.
So let's hope!!
Dawnee.. Take care of yourself!!

i was going to suggest you investigate c. diff as well. unfortunately, tests for c. diff are notoriously inaccurate (sound familiar?). check out http://www.cdiffsupport.com for more info.
(i'm currently off all lyme treatment (temporarily) and on vancomycin for c. diff, even though my stool test was negative. knock on wood, but so far it's helping the symptoms tremendously. my GI doc is a specialist in c. diff; i was lucky to find him.)

Oh boy more fun for me... I called to get the test results, but they said they wouldn't give "Me" the results over the phone because of HIPPA.
I would have to come in I guess, and pay a fee. My Dr. would have to call. I told them my Dr. is not on staff at their hospital. She said again my Dr. would have to call.
HMMM I wonder If I call back and say this is Dr. Krissy??? What a Joke! I can't even get my own test results? So now I will pay their fee and do the leg work again. Posts: 17 | From rockford, illinois | Registered: Apr 2008
