I got my braces off about 2 1/2 months ago, and hav had infected/inflamed gum tissue (particularly around one tooth) since a week after I got them off.

I have been to my dentist 3 times and they are at a loss I have tried using salt water, peroxide, alcohol free mouthwash.

There is space in between the molars now that wasn't there before ortho, so the intial suggestion was to use knotted floss to make sure it is clean and free of debris.

At times this flares bad enough that the whole side of my face hurts and I can't eat on that side at all. [Frown]

I am thinking some of the healing issue may be lyme associated, but am wondering if others have experienced this and what, if anything, worked for you? I am tired of this constant irritation and pain..... [Mad]

Hi
CoQ10 may help heal gums, and is usually low in chronic lymies - think it mentions this in Dr B's guidelines.

Do not take if you are on Mepron or Malarone though, you'd need to wait to finish the course.

I am a periodontal Surgical Assistant in rockford.

Braces are very common building grounds for infection! We would see teenage kids all the time. For this problem. If you have any immune problems, chances are that it really flared.

The infection probably is up higher then your floss can reach and turned to tarter, which you can not get off with floss anyway.

Don't wait, it can distroy the surrounding bone, and quickly!! Make a appointment with a periodontist pronto!! He will probably be very aggressive, and may want to do a gingivectomy which is reducing the amount of gum tissue around some of your teeth.

I hope this helped you, Best of luck, and like I said don't wait!!

IMHO the best way to heal gums is oil pulling. Search site for discussion on this. My gums demonstrably improved after doing this. It is easy to do, it just takes time to work it into the schedule, 20 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes in the evening. Its non invasive, I noticed a change from my hygienist when she tested my gums. It went from 4 to 2 on the periondontal pocket tests.
