I'm currently taking 3/4 tabs of Bactrim DS working my way up to a whole twice a day, that and 400mg of doxycycline once a day. YIKES! The first couple of days were harsh but I am drinking so much water , my stomach is fine with them.

So every morning I take 400mg Doxy and 3/4 tab of Bactrim, when the doc adds in Rifampin I will have to do that one at the same time. Man am I gonna burn a whole thru my stomach or is that just doxy, the big stomach irratator.

--------------------
Current taking: Bactrim DS 3x Daily, Doxy 400mg 1x Daily, Rifampin 450mg (ramping up to 600mg) 1x Daily, Compounded Nystatin 150MU Caps 1x Daily, Plus supplements to come later.

You cannot take any doxy on an empty stomach. You must have a fair amount of food in your stomach first, then take the doxy and follow it with a glass of fluid and then stay upright for 45 minutes or so. Otherwise, you might do what I did. Initially, I took it on an empty stomach. I vomitted it twice (slow learner). I burned my esophagus and that took a week to stop hurting. Even after I learned to take it correctly after 8 weeks my stomach hurt all the time. It's tough on the gut. And for the last few weeks I was taking Doryx, an expensive form of doxy that's supposed to be easier on the gut.

Also, ask your doc if the doxy would be better divided into 2 doses.

If I took 400mg of Doxi at one time I would
Barf for sure -

Doxi like Most ABX has to be kept at a constant
level in the body -
you should spread the doses threw the day -

Soda crackers are a good thing to eat when
taking doxi on empty stomic -Jay-

I was on 400mg/day of doxy, along with cefuroxime axefil. That was definite a stomach-eating combo. I was instructed to take with food. Rice cooked with broccoli, carrots, and other such things was good to take it with. I would eat a little more about 45 minutes or an hour afterwards, then take acidophilus and eat yogurt after that- kind of a "layering effect". Then I would take vitamins, supplements ('nutrijoint, etc.) and pain meds. At next meal I would take artimesia, atovaquone, and garlic in some form. In between the meals Iwould take a glass or 2 of water with around 20 drops of Grapefruit seed extract, and a quarter or half a gram of olive leaf extract. Then more yogurt and it'd be time for a nap. Thinking back, I can't imagine how I did it! But you gotta do whatcha gotta do....

If I were you I would take a good probiotics maybe an hour before I took the antibiotics. I took them several times a day. They made all the difference and I also took the antibiotics with food. Probiotics were a Godsend to me because I've always had problems with antibiotics and I took them for 8-9 months with no problems.

Yes, be sure you're on probiotics... a quality brand.

And take them 2 hours before or after antibiotics.

Save your stomach, it's the only one you have.

If the answer is really 'none' then don't even bother with tetracycline...it just won't work, or real poorly, on top of food.

Also a few of us have found that if zithro is taken on an empty stomach, as it was originally designed, it absorbs so rapidly it won't upset digestion.

In fairness this comes from the perspective of somebody who can eat thai peppers right off the bush and takes generic doxy on an empty stomach with no after effects.

This is making me hungry for a jalapeo (not kidding)

Wish I had your stomach, charlie!!

Hmm maybe my stomach already has a hole burned through it. I take it in the morning. I down about 8 oz of water first and then the 400mg followed but 3 more 8oz cups. So thats about a quart. Stomach only burned for two days till I started doing that.

I used to take them in divided doses but doc says the killing rate is higher when u take them all at once. Stomach has been okay. No complaints. I have has one caught in my throat once. Not fun.

I have a little trick I do now to ensure that doesn't happen. Kinds hard to explain tho.
