I've been sick since March 2008 and recently saw an LLMD (Dr. E in Jackson, NJ). I had almost completed a 30-day cycle of 200mg/day generic doxy when I saw Dr. E.
She switched me to a 30-day cycle of 300mg/day Doryx. I just started the modified treatment less than a week ago.
The past day or so, I have been feeling more tired/fatigued/weak than usual. In addition, my vision seems to be a little off.
During much of the past day or two, it seems that I can't quite fully focus on objects. Things are a little blurry, a little hazy, etc. It's almost as if I'm partly looking through things rather than at them.
It's actually a little disorienting. Is it possible that the vision impairment (and the rest) could be a herx reaction? Or, is this not common, even if dealing with the herx reaction?
Of course, anything wrong with our vision is scary, and it has me pretty freaked out. I called the doctor and am waiting for a response, but I couldn't resist posting here since people here are so knowledgeable.
Oh, and I have not yet been diagnosed. Waiting for test results.
Thank you so much! jwick

Hi Lymetoo,
That's good to know. I just spoke to someone at the doctor's office. She advised that Dr. E feels this could certainly be part of a herx reaction. If so, it is temporary...which is the exact word I wanted to hear.
However, she thinks it is a good idea to see an eye doctor...just to be safe and make sure there are no issues.
Um, does the fact she thinks I should see an eye doctor mean that she may suspect this is not a herx? I'm thinking she is just thorough and wants to make sure all is good.
I hope these reactions (if that is what this is) do not last too long. I'm on day 2 of it and am feeling SO weak.
Good times...lol!

Thank you all so much. That is definitely reassuring that it is not just me...lol!
I hope that it doesn't last much longer. Today is day 2 of feeling even worse than usual.
I guess you just have to suck it up and deal with feeling worse before you feel better.
Do herxes typically last a long time? Is the first herx supposed to be the worst? Therefore, if you get one later, it shouldn't be as bad as the first?

Ok, I am really getting scared here. Last night starting at dinner, I started to feel way worse with the weakness, lightheadedness, tingling, shaking, etc. This morning is awful. Dr. E is on vacation, and the number they refer patients to advised that no one is there to return calls on the weekend.
I am praying that this is just a herx reaction, but I am really scared. I am feeling almost as bad as I did when I was hospitalized for this back in March.
If this is a herx, how bad is this going to get before it gets better? I'm afraid to even take my Doryx (but I did). I feel like I can't breathe and am going to pass out.
Any advice for a big, wimpy chicken???

I have the same symptoms as you. I have been on treatment for 9 months, and now my vision is way off. My eyes burn now. feels like something coating is on there. I saw an eye specialist about 6 months ago, did a full eye test, and thought I was crazy for going to see him cause he found nothing wrong with my eyes.. I am seeing another eye doc Monday, but I think this is the crap coming out of us. My ears even burn, and tons of pressure on sinus area, head, etc.. not to mention the tremors, burning, fatigue, cracking popping joints, and headach. But, believe it or not, I am better than 9 months ago. I could not even walk last year, I could not even feel my legs. So, I will settle for this, for now. untill I get recovered!!!!!we will!!!1

My eyes burn as well. Not constantly, but every now and then. Maybe it is the infection trying to get out.
Today was just an awful day. My husband was working, and my in-laws were nice enough to come stay with me because I felt so ill and was really scared.
I hope this is simply a sign that the Doryx is working. I also hope that tomorrow is better.
I still don't have my results back, so it's really scary not knowing for sure what is going on!
Does anyone have any good detox ideas? I'm looking for a safe way to alleviate some symptoms.
