My daughter just had a port put in last week and started on 2 gr. of IV Rocephrine 5 days a week.
She has done 4 days so far without any major herxing.
I am wondering what experiences others have had with starting IV treatments.
The only other med she is currently on is 375 mg. Zith. I think LLMD is planning on adding Clindomiacine (?) for Babs. soon.
Thanks! Marla

Hi marlaSue,
For adults, herxing every 4 weeks on IV Rocephin, for example, is true for many, as opposed to herxing right away. But not every one. And some don't herx at all.

I hope she doesn't experience a bad herx.. they are so awful.
May I suggest?
I don't know how old she is.. but if you can get her doing something fun now.... and where she is smiling...
Take some pictures of her and the fun she is having.
Sometimes it helps when going through a bad herx to be able to see the days that were better. It can provide hope and comfort when there isn't much there to work with.
Some folks go 3-4 weeks before they herx.
I am a 3 1/2 week person usually... but everyone is different.

I had the most severe herx's on every Ab you could think of, so bad I could not function although I did not herx on IV Rocephin I just got better - My LLMD says he see's this a lot with Rocephin I assume its as it helps lower the cytokine storm/inflammation associated with a herx.

My rocephin herx has been pretty mild so far. Just sleeping a lot during the day and a few extra pains.
I've been on it for slightly over a week. I'm kind of bracing for a nasty herx at some point.
I'm on Rocephin 2gm/day and Biaxin 500mg 2x/day (for Mycoplasma).

In A Daze,
That was exactly my treatment for the first 6 months. I herxed hard. I went homeless with a cathetar in my arm. Right away I got into a place for homeless veterans. My home health care nurses followed me. I literally kept the Rocephen on ice (in a tray!)
... And the Rocephen/biaxin helped me a lot.
I immediately followed that with LA Bicillin intramuscular shots 3 times a week for ten months. Those herxes are rough and I thought were well worth it. Both are great for neuro.
