Tonight was a regular "I have a headache and feel lousy night", when suddenly my whole body went weak and the right side of my face fell down.
That was 3 hours ago and everything is better, EXCEPT FOR MY DISTORTED, HIDEOUS FACE!
In five years of extreme illness I was always glad that Bell's palsy had never been one of my problems. Now I'm deeply upset that the day seems to have come when I have pretty much completed the list of all possible Lyme symptoms.
I see my LLMD on Monday, thank goodness, and, I HOPE it goes away soon!
I've got a lot to talk to her about this visit. I hope she's in a good mood. Sometimes she's not.
I will keep you updated on the state of my face. [Sob!].

Hey Lymelady,
I had Bell's palsy. It went away in 4 months. Over 2 years later I finally got Lyme treatment approved.
For some, it goes away in a lot less than 4 months. Some have it longer than 4. Sometimes a year. Sometimes!
What's great is that you KNOW you have Lyme! It's wonderful you have an appointment on Monday to see your LLMD.
It put me into another plane of consciousness. It was one of profound innocence!
Hang in there with us, OK? I know, it's scary, but this too shall pass ... you have an LLMD!
do you read PUBLIC HEALTH ALERT NEWSLETTERS posted about on each forum by editor, dawn?
author, PJ LANGHOFF, had this too, in her 2 book series, IT'S ALL IN YOUR HEAD, she shows the before/after photos when bell's palsy hit her. she came out of it too.
best wishes and GLAD you have llmd on this monday!

I hope you can call your doctor's office on Friday and get an adjustement in meds that might thwart this before next week.
If you have any allicin capsules, I wonder if that might be a little boost as it does go through the blood brain barrier.

Yo face mon...
You said.. "Now I'm deeply upset that the day seems to have come when I have pretty much completed the list of all possible Lyme symptoms."
I know one you haven't had!
Oh yes I do!
It is the same one I've never had before!
Swollen testicles.
So what are you and the face going to be doing tomorrow?
I KNOW!! BAD BAD Tincup!!! I am just trying to make you laugh cause you DO sound so cute when you do!
I too woke up one day to Bells Palsy. It was a shock-a-roo!
I panicked. I think that is a requirement.
I immediately called my neuro-chiropractor.
Now listen up.. cause I am NOT kidding here. He told me to do two things over the phone when I called. It was a two hour drive to get there.... and at the time the LAST thing I wanted to do was go out in public!
I did what he said.. then said, "THAT'S IT?" He said yes and told me to call tomorrow and hung up.
I thought- I DO have a fool here. Am I suppose to believe that sitting in a chair that spins.. and sticking my finger in my mouth will fix Bell's Palsy?
Dang it though... it sure did the trick. The next day it was gone.
I REALLY can't believe I am saying this to anyone.. but it is true.
If I could tell you how this was done... I would. BUT.. it depends on the individual and the damaged area in the brain and nerve/eye stuff.
What he had me do was to stimulate my brain in certain spots by slowly spinning in the chair... and rubbing the roof of my mouth in a certain spot.
BUT.. do NOT try this alone. Do it wrong and it can get worse!!!
It is only a certain direction to turn... you move slowly and only to a certain degree... and you ONLY stimulate one small spot on the roof of your mouth.
Again.. if it was the exact same motion for everyone.. I'd let you know. But it isn't. He knows the damage I have to my brain already... as he had worked with me regularly in the past. So if you tried it alone... your ear might fall off or something.
May I suggest... see if you can find a chiropractic neurologist. If so.. call and ask if they are able to help with Bells Palsy. I would imagine some can and some can't. They usually take insurance... so that is a help.
Hope you get some help for it.
Really I do. And I hope you know I was trying to make you laugh! I know how stressed I was at the time... so please don't let that happen to you. OK?

I've been dealing w/this almost daily for over a month now. It was also one of my symptoms 3 years ago. For me, it comes and goes. Over the last 4 years, it's mostly gone, and the last 1.5 months has been about the worst stretch I've had w/respect to this and it's really been depressing. Many days I never leave my home unless I absolutely have to.
What's more irritating is when some of my acquaintences tell me that I don't look that bad. I think these are the people who never really paid much attention to me or just don't want to acknowledge my illness at all. Because as soon as a few of my other friends see me, they'll say, "Oh sweetie, I'm so sorry" or "You don't look very good today".
Personally, when my face is drooping, I'd rather have someone tell me that I don't look very good than having them tell me that I don't look so bad. Those people who tell me that I don't look so bad must really think I'm unattractive when I look like my normal self.
Plus, they just don't get it that, at least for me, when my face is drooping, my face and often that whole side of my body may be numb and I feel crappy. I think maybe they don't want to deal w/the fact that I'm really ill, or illness just makes them uncomfortable.
Anyway, I'm sorry you have to deal w/it. I hope it goes away faster than it has for me.

Hi psano2,
You're strong to have gone through this.
Once was enough for me, thank you. 6 VA neurologists plus a VA PhD MRI technician called it a stroke.
I never had a stroke!
I was staring at all but the Phd technician and they didn't get it. I'm going to have to send them to the alligator pit some day.
How long have you been on antibiotics?
Lyme Lady,
Yes, PJ Langhoff had this. There is a picture of her in Book 2 of It's All In Your Head. It has 80 stories written by patients!
I suppose you may not be able to read much now ...

Hubby has had problems with what I call temporary Bell's Palsy. His comes and goes -- acts up while he is having seizure-like episodes which mostly have stopped with Bartonella treatment and Lyrica.
I have several pictures of these spells. Since this has been going on for a couple of years his facial muscles have been somewhat stretched out on the left side. He can really make some ugly faces when he wants to now !!!
For many people I think this can also be a viral issue. At one time antiviral herbs seemed helpful -- Saint John's Wort and Lemon Balm. I used tinctures -- about 1 ml (a dropper full 2 times daily for 4 or 6 weeks -- forget which).
Might be a good idea to take some photos in case this resolves quickly.
I can relate to Tincup talking about spinning in an office chair. Hubby had a chiropractic neurologist also suggest this -- not for Bell's Palsy though -- just to retrain his brain. He went to Office Max daily for a month or so once to get his 5 minutes of therapy in. At the time this didn't help much. Haven't tried this recently.
But just this last week he told me that he was able to do backwards walking without any problems. Another body work therapist suggested this. I took this as a good sign that hubby's brain is slowly calming down.
I remember you saying that Levaquin also helped you, but at the time I was concerned that you were on a low dose and I'm not sure if you did anything else for the Bartonella after you stopped the Levaquin.

Hi guys. Bea, your husband and I are so similar. Since I got up this morning my face has gone from normal to funky repeatedly.
I had to restart levaquin recently because my body spasms were getting bad again, but now they've gone away.
The facial palsy corresponds with my hands curling. If my hands are tightly curled, my face is distorted. When they loosen up, so does my face.
So weird.
You're right, Tincup, I can safely say that I will NEVER experience testicle pain. Thank goodness for small favors.
I think this all started because I was having two great days in a row this week and I was revving with new energy. I decided to mow the lawn with the hand lawnmower.
All that vibrating must not have been good for my nervous system. I overdid it.
As I type this, all is 99% okay. But you know how you get that feeling that something's not quite done with you yet. That's how my face feels.
I'm going to go take a nap now. I'm sooo tired today. - Lymelady

Bells Palsey affects the cranial nerves. Therefore to heal damaged nerves B12- Metholcolbalymin type helps! You can take sublingual tabs by SOurce Naturals or get the actual shots made by a compounding pharmacy.
