i've made an appointment for my lymie mother next week, in an effort to pursue detoxing whatever is screwing up her balance canal and giving her severe, debilitating, life-destroying vertigo.
it will be difficult to convince her to go unless i can tell her people have had positive experiences. so.. has anyone felt better after acupuncture?
has anyone thought it was a total waste? (i'm focusing on the detox aspect, specifically neuro, not the idea of healing lyme.. my wouldn't that be lovely though.)

I had all good experiences.... although after treatment you may feel tired...
I went for pain for several years.... it helped a lot..... not sure about the detoxing though...
I think like everything else....everyone has a different experience with treatments...meds..etc..
hope she has a good experience.....and helps.

I tried acupuncture for about 6mo before I learned that I had Lyme and Co. After the session I would feel extremely tired, take a nap, then wake up feeling better. It temporarily relieved many of my symptoms. Unfortunately the effect wore off after a day or two.
I also tried Traditional Chinese Medicine, she would mix loose herbs/etc based on my exam, symptoms, and needs for the week.
I would have continued treatments but could not afford it anymore.
My practitioner was wonderful, highly experienced and recommended. She was honest enough to encourage me to keep searching for answers to the cause of my illness since my body was unable to fight it on its own.
If you have chosen a good practitioner then they should be able to help your mother at least feel better. I don't know about assisting with detox though.

I have had good experiences.
However, early on I could stand the needles just in and out. Normally, they stay in for 20 minutes but that would really wire me, over-stimulated my nervous system for days. Then, I'd crash.
Now, I can do that. Acupuncture has helped so much I don't know what I'd do without it.
Hopefully, this is a L.Ac. who knows about lyme. If not, the detox recommendations may be far too harsh and too much for a sensitive body.

I had great experiences with my acupuncturist. She was well versed in LD and would have me hold viles of different things (one being lyme) while she treated me.
I found it very relaxing and always fell asleep. She never put the needles in very far and never vibrated them or anything.
There was also a rife machine there that anyone with LD could use for free but it was not a very good one.
All in all in was a good experience and may have helped with detoxing some.
Maybe you could talk to whoever you are thinking of taking your mother to and ask specifically about detoxing?
I had to stop because they wanted me to go twice a week and after I started treatment for LD (it was the acupuncturist who figured it out) the expense was too much.

I've been going once a week for a year and a half, because my husband, who is a contractor, did a lot of work on the LAc's house, and she paid him half in money and half in acupuncture sessions.
Otherwise, I would not go. It helps me feel less stressed for about 24 hrs. after each session, but that is all, and most of that is due to the free ten minute massage by an LMT that is included at the end.
To be fair to her, after the doctor first examined me, she told me I was so ill that she was not sure she could help me, and that I should have come in many years sooner. I'd already had Lyme for 21 yrs. at that point.
My husband, who is constant pain from 40 years of hard work, gets enough pain relief from his sessions that he's cut his narcotics by 2/3.
A long time ago, after getting whiplash from a car accident, two sessions of acupuncture cured my whiplash after two months of conventional tx did nothing.
So my anecdotal opinion is that it works very well on functional problems, but less well on diseases that involve an actual change in cellular composition.

I call myself 'jolts' there. The acupuncture visit was around 1983 that I remember. I admit I didn't write the story very good but it truley was a miracle.

How many sessions should I give it before giving up? I have had no effects after two sessions.

acupunture cured me, i'm sure of it! I was on abx and seeing a well renowned LLMD in hyde park, NY for over 3 years..i kept relapsing when stopping abx.
I had bart, babs and lyme disease. After I started going to acupunture to a dr. of acupuncture and herbal remedies. i went weekly, and used her herbs to strengthen my immune system. the first day you always feel worse after treatment, as it opens all the energy lines and you feel lousy..if you do it often, then it starts to build up , and you get stronger and stronger.
I ended up stopping my abx, and she detoxed my liver with acupunture as well at this time..to get all the abx out. It took aobut 5 months, but she would treat any left over symptoms from gettng off abx, and then strengthen my immune system every week.
It has been 5 years, after havign chronic lyme for 30 years, adn i'm totally free from lyme..no more symptoms at all. I had passed lyme on congenitally to my son as well..and he went to Dr. J in Ct. and was on abx for 2 years..i then took him to the acupuncturist as well, and she did the same treatments...
both of us are happy and healthy now...no more relapsing, herxing or lyme etc..but it think the abx were important in the beginning of treatment, i then think adding in the acupuncture got me slowly off abx, cleansed my liver, (which is part of makes us feel sick wehn we stop abx and go back again because of it) and got us both healthy..
he's in all honors classes with A's and B's in his jr.year of high school..doing awesome..i work full time again as a nurse..no problems
I would highly recommend adding an alternative such as acupunture when you've been on abx for ahwile..do both for awhile, then slowly wean off...it's been amazing for us.
make sure you find a DR of acupunture tho..not jsut a regular acupuncutist...
hope it helps..give it at least 3 months until you really start to notice a huge difference, then it's all uphill from there.

Acupuncture has been wonderful for me. But, it's best done by a LL L.Ac. - that is important so that the needles are not left in too long, especially at first.
It's not an overnight treatment, it takes time, but is the reason I'm still alive today.

I'd say you need to give it at least four months of weekly treatments. Remember, you can't expect a few sessions to be a miracle after years of such a toxic infection that causes such damage.
You should notice some stress relief fairly early on though if you also have an endocrine support program. Acupuncture really can enhance that part of it. The sense of strength can take longer.

Lyme literate acupuncturist? Good luck finding one of those. They exist? I don't know where you all find these lyme literate specialists. It's a joke here in my state thinking they exist.
To answer the original issue, I went once for $85. Nothing major happened. Didn't want to spend more cash on it.

I would highly recommend accupuncture and moxibustion combined.
Moxibustion increases the white and red blood cell count which then strengthens your immune system to fight the infection.

Acupuncture was greatly supportive for me during my pre-lyme diagnosis days for helping to build energy, stablize emotions, enhance immunity, circulation flow, etc. But without specific measures to address infection, it was not going to cure anything in the long term.
If the vertigo came about as a result of a die-off, it may help with detox. But if the vertigo is from an active infection/s the problem will very likely not be resolved with needles only. It may seem to resolve, but then shift to another area or into another symptom/s.
It is true that one can feel more fatigue afterward, often depending on the length of time the needles are in, as someone already mentioned. Resting afterwards was always very nourishing and the energy felt more grounded afterward and increased over time with each session.
Ultimately, I feel strongly that acupuncture can be very helpful to some of us with this illness, and always worth trying if affordable.

I tried acupuncture for about 4 months, prior to discovering the cause of my ills was Lyme and company. I was hoping for neck pain relief, and help with my terrible neuro symptoms, including balance issues and hyped-up nervous system.
Unfortunately it did not provide me any relief. I did like the sessions as it was 1 hour out of my day, resting, warm blankets, quiet time which I otherwise wouldn't have gotten. Sort of relaxing for my crazed-up nervous system while I was there, but no lasting effects. Darn, I wished. Anyway, that's my experience. TS
