I am in my 8th week of treatment for Lyme. I am supposed to start taking Mepron asap ~ in addition to Azithromycin & Diflucan. Has anyone taken Mepron before? What do I need to know about what it is really like to take this medication? I'm doing ok with Azithro & Diflucan (after crashing and burning hard on Minocyclin & Tindamax). I am hoping that Mepron will not throw me too off balance again. If you took Mepron, did it make you feel barfy? Dizzy? Strip out your gut (and then poopy)? Please let me know what worked for you when trying to gag this yello paint-stuff down. (And man, is it expensive or what?!?)

Question: If those two that made you crash and burn were giving you a herx, did you give them a long enough time to work?
You might want to keep in mind that if you were having a herx reaction they might have in a way been "helping" you fight off stuff.
In terms of Mepron.....the first time I went on it, I did herx. I did barf some, but not necessarily every day. I think the key is having a good meal in you when you take it, so it doesn't upset the stomach.
Besides, they say it works best when you get a LOT of fat with it (i've heard 23 grams!)
Other than that, I lost my appetite, but I think different people have different experiences. I also had night sweats. More tired too, and memory problems. Felt dazed.
Overall though, it wasn't so horrible that I couldn't take it. I could still do a few things, like get out of the house, etc.
Ironically, two years later, I'm on it again. This time, it's easier, though I am having dizziness, memory problems, and night sweats. This time though, I actually crave food. And, don't really feel as nauseous.
Good luck.

No experience here either. I used clindamycin/quinine and artemisinin/zith to clear the babesia.
Go to the little word "search" above .. upper middle of this page. Click on it and then type in "mepron."
You'll come up with hundreds of links to past discussions. More than you could ever read in a week's time!

I've been on Mepron for a month and I haven't experienced anything too unusual. I might be one of these non herxers though. Mepron's not too bad to handle. I have heard many people say they got better on it.

Hi grateful,
I've taken Mepron for a little over two months. Everyone's experience is different.
When I first started taking it, before the week was up, I herxed badly where the babs was affecting me.
I don't mind the taste! I just started taking artemisinin. I'm glad I waited to take it, as the first herx would have been horrible. But I've been bad off, to start, with Lyme / TBI's, that's why.
After that first bad herx, and since then, there have been only several days that I haven't herxed.
I use a kitchen teaspoon to measure it. Some use a medical tsp from a pharmacy. A pharmacist told me there is no difference.
Yes--to get lots of information, near the top of this page click "search" and enter "Mepron" and enter the "medical" forum.
My GI is doing fine with Mepron. And no nightsweats. Again, we're all different. Good luck!
