My 7 year old daughter has about a 9 inch bullseye rash and was bitten by a tick this last month or so. She has been complaining of a sore neck and has been exhibiting mild fatigue. Today was the first day that the rash came to my attention. I took her to the pediatrician who prescribed Amoxocillin for 14 days and saidthat it will completely cure her. However, having read up a little on the subject, I am inclined to have some doubts about her treatment.

I tried finding a Lyme educated physician in Northern New Jersey. I found one in Hunterdon County (Dr. F) and another one in Warren (Dr. E) However, neither one will see a patient under the age of 18.

I am not sure what to do. Am I overreacting about wanting a second opinion from an LLMD or someone a little more educated about Lyme??

I took a picture of the rash but I became frustrated trying to attach it.

Thank you!

Melissa

Hey jig....

Welcome to LymeNet.

You are right to be concerned. May I suggest calling Dr. J in CT? He is the Lyme expert for kids.

None better.

Good luck!!!

Please take her to an LLMD!!! For one thing, she could have coinfections and only an LLMD will know how to treat them.

Tincup knows her stuff.. please listen!!

WHOA!!! 14 days??? not even close to enough!!!

I agree with tutu. Please get her to an LLMD! I have been infected since age 5. Didn't know what was wrong but I felt horrible for many years of my life. Lost much of my childhood to illness. In and out of remission for decades.

Please get help for her from someone who knows what they are doing, an ILADS LLMD. Dr. J that TinCup mentioned is the best from what I hear.

TinCup - would you please fix Dr. J's name? Thanks!

Terry

Hi all!

I just want to thank you all for your help and concern.

My daughter has an appointment with Dr. J. on Monday! YAY!!!!

I had my suspicions about her pediatrician's treatment and you all confirmed that. I sure wish more physicians were better educated about this topic.

Once again, my sincere thanks goes out to all of you who took the time to respond to my post. You may have just rescued a child.

I will keep you all informed of her progress.

-Melissa

(And no, I wasn't scared away...just busy making plans to get her treated.) :-D
