My daughter is complaining that her rash is itchy and burning. I don't see Dr J until Monday so I thought I would ask you all if this is normal and if you have any suggestions on relieving the discomfort.
My daughter's pediatrician (who has proven to be quite ignorant so far) said that she has never heard of such a thing.
Thank you.

The doctor I saw had never seen a bulseye rash before either. Made me crazy.
I can remember how badly my rash itched at first as it was forming. At one point it began to hurt. I can remember being 8 months pregnant and covered in a bulsey rash. It hurt so bad that I couldn't wear a shirt. Not a pretty sight.
Try cortozon cream. That might help???
I will have her in my thoughts and prayers. Thank goodness you see him on Monday. I am sure Monday seems so far away for you little girl right now.
Let us know how she is doing.

Mine was hot, itchy, red, and raised. It was more of a circle than a bullseye.
When I first called my PCP's office, the nurse said, "It can't be Lyme Disease. Lyme rashes do NOT itch."
What a fool I was to have believed that, until about two weeks later I was nearly dying with pain, fatigue, and fever, and went to the ER.
Four years later, I am as sick if not sicker than ever. Though her advice did not delay my treatment for long, it could not have helped.
Anyway, I used cortisone cream, Bendadryl itching lotion, anything for insect bites and stings, and they helped.
Also aloe vera gel was very helpful. I can still clearly remember how excruciatingly painful, itchy, and burning that rash was.

Aloe worked for me as well. Mine felt like a bad burn. I had forgotten about that.

I echo Tracy's experience:
Mine rashes were hot, itchy, red, and raised. They were more of a circle than a bullseye.
But mine did have a darker center, oozing a bit - and I had about a dozen, about the size of a quarter to a silver dollar.
It was unbearable, but only appeared with the use of doxycycline .
So, I stopped and it took a week for the dozen rashes to heal.
It's hard to know if my were Bb EM's or herx or reaction to abx. They did not appear around the time of a bite.
If I kept the patches moist with aloe that was great.
AVOID any cream with any kind of steroid.
And, I would think a cream with oil would make it burn more. Aloe cools it. Ice chips might help, too. Or a cold carrot slice or a cucumber chunk. If used on a young child, be sure such remedies are not consumed
Perhaps a clay poultice - but keep it moist, not like a drying face mask as that will burn. It could help pull out toxins that are causing some of the problem.

been there, done that!
tried everything; nothing worked then came up with this:
CORN STARCH; some folks take baths in it!!
ALOE VERA PLANT; i take off 1" and rub it in my rash good; and redo it later; it stops itching IMMEDIATELY for me!

Thank you so much for your replies! I am frustrated with the average MD. I was told the same thing that Lyme does NOT itch or burn.
The physician I took my daughter to said that she wasn't sure if it was Lyme. The second one said that it was a classic "no brainer" Lyme rash. But yet she was given a very inadequate treatment.
The doctor prescribed 400mg Amoxocillin/day for 14 days!!!!
I just thank God that I brushed up on Lyme's earlier before I took her in to her pediatrician!
When I confronted the ped about her recommended treatment and pointed out that it came no where near the government recommendations, she blew me off.
(Not that I am sold on the CDC's recommendations. I prefer a more aggressive approach especially in the early stages.)
Thank you to all of you that responded. You all have provided me with more information than any other average MD could have ever given me.
Best of luck to all of you. I will keep you in my prayers for a speedy "recovery."

Mine was hot, itchy, red, and raised. It was more of a circle than a bullseye. Over time it did get larger, but it was on my back so I could not see it easily.
Dr Dx me with shingles due to rash and back pain.
3 months later after getting really ill I got Dx with Lyme.
Positive for all 10 bands on WB test. Also positive for Babesia and Bartonolla co-infections- hence maybe that effects the perfect bull's eye rash??
Not all rashes are created equal-- as your body is just trying to fight if off.
