Hi everyone!

I just got the news that my western blot was positive today. The ID doc said 3 weeks of doxy 100mg twice a day will be enough.

I got bit in April and have very bad symptoms already.

I'm going to see a LLMD 8/5/08.

In your opinion is the 3 weeks of doxy enough. I'm so anxious and scared that I need more. I know I'll have more answers in August but that is so far away.

Hi KellBell,

There's nothing like knowing what you've got! Congratulations on getting an LLMD. [group hug]

You're right on top of it! You sought help right away--good for you.

OK, where from here? [confused]

I think most would agree that you could take the three weeks of doxycycline while you are waiting, although at 100 mg twice a day, it won't do much to affect your germ load--and you are having symptoms.

Maybe ... maybe! ... that will help keep Lyme at bay until August, when you go to the LLMD.

You might beg another week of doxycycline from the infectious disease duck. Some other ID ducks are doing that.

Actually, getting an appointment in August with an LLMD is fast! I'd wait it out--with joy!

You're going to get help!

In the meantime, You might get your thyroid checked. Hypothyroidism is epidemic to the point of being rediculous--just in the general population!

How's your GI tract? Is it humming along? If there are any aches or if something is not right in your GI, you could see a doctor and do some reading on it.

GI problems can be caused by Lyme or a pre-existing condition. Either way, if your GI is reasonably healthy it makes recovery a lot easier.

Go to www.ilads.org and on the left menu, click "Treatment Guidelines" and that brings you to two guidelines: Print both!

Dr. B's 33 pages of tips for 2005 (above) list basic supplements that are essential: fish oil gelcaps, magnesium, a good multiple and B-complex.

It's VERY important to start a good probiotic right away. Antibiotics (doxy, etc) will kill off the "good" bacteria in your gut and probiotics will replace it.

He lists other supplements--according to what you need. Since you are getting right on this (as opposed to going years, ill, with no diagnosis,) maybe most of his supplements aren't needed.

Actually, you have a lot to do between now an August!

I'm sorry your ill ... but happy you got right on this. [Razz]

Kellbell,

Betty's right: if there is any way you can get more doxycycline, to what she is recommending, that would be great.

It'll save you time and money in having to do other prolonged antibiotics, down the line. Anyway you can get more doxy is fair game.

For example, contact your support group in your area--go to the top of any page, to the left menu and click "Support Groups." They may know of a local doctor--not an LLMD--who is willing to prescribe that high dose of doxy right away.

If not ... well ... everything is in place with the LLMD. It's awful what we have to go thru with the ducks.

Take care.
