Besides the dangers of hyperkalemia (high potassium)...

Ovarian cysts are common and most are NOT malignant.

And most can be/are treated with BC pills. But if the cyst is malignant, NO estrogen containing BC pills.

There is a HUGE difference between Yasmin and other BC pills.

First...I need you to understand this:

"The present study suggests that circulating androgens and SHBG levels are *not* strongly associated with

ovarian cancer risk,

although

levels of fT may be associated with an increased risk among women diagnosed at relatively young age.

Cancer Epidemiol Biomarkers Prev. 2007 Jan;16(1):23-9

Free testosterone (fT)

So...testosterone levels maybe associated with an increased risk of ovarian cancer.

"Increased levels of estrogen stimulate increased levels of testosterone and androgen (increased body hair)."

"Yasmin birth control pill is different than other traditional combined oral contraceptives.

Though it is combined of estrogen (ethinyl estradiol) and progestin (drsp), which has the unique properties than other progestin based pills available in the market.

In other combined pills, progesin is derived from testosterone

whereas in Yasmin with drsp, progestin is derived from spironolactone."

It is testosterone(high) that can greatly increase the risk of ovarian cancer, NOT androgens.

"Ovarian cysts may still form during oral contraceptive use, although

oral contraceptives dramatically reduce formation of ovarian cysts.

What really matters is whether the cyst looks like a "typical" ovarian cyst or not.

What needs to be ruled out is another cause of ovarian mass, such as ovarian cancer, or a complication of an ovarian cyst, such as rupture or hemorrhage.

This evaluation needs to be done with a physician's help. Once testing/evaluation is done, if an ovarian cyst is deemed to be typical (benign), then oral contraceptives can safely be used, possibly reducing development of further cysts."

I fear my daughters pelvic ultrasound months ago which showed an ovarian cyst (while on Yasmin) and was "dismissed" by her ob-gyn was a serious misdiagnosis.

She just had a very "unusual" skin tab removed and sent for biopsy. AND her doctor recommended she start a drug to put her into menopause (at age 31)!

I think Yaz triggered all of this....and perhaps the kidney infection with bleeding after being on that BC pill (to control acne) only a few months.

There is a website for people to discuss side effects of drugs. It is here:

http://www.medications.com/

Guess what?

Listed as drug with most side effects: #1 Yasmin with 4212 posts; #2 is Levaquin with 1940 posts.

I agree. Some doctors hand it out like it's candy.

You are not supposed to be on the pill for more than 5 years without taking a vacation from it.....all docs should know this, but no one enforces it.

At least, that has been what I've heard. I am not necessarily up to date on all the new ones.

I am only 24, and I have watched a lot of my friends start it when they were like 16, 17.....and a lot of them developed bad side effects. So much so that I didn't even want to try it!

But they are so brainwashed that they need it, none of them tried going off it. Though they all were in worse health after starting it. Makes no sense from an outside perspective.

Have your daughter checked for hormone levels as well as discuss this with her OB/GYN.

The skin tags can also be a sign of PCOS or Poly-Cystic Ovarian Syndrome - I had this, but was caused by b/b barrier and lyme disease - interesting, 'eh?

Good luck - I have had no problems with Yaz - I love it.

Awaiting pathology of "unusual" skin tab removed by OB-GYN.

CT scan of eyes (for extreme dry, painful, red eyes) just came back. Negative.

That eliminates the possibility of a lymphoma behind her eyes or endometrial tissue that migrated. These are rare, but CAN happen.

If the skin tab is not cancerous...then the next step is indeed an endocrinologist.

Hx. of asthma (mold triggered), kidney infection when on Yaz, and acne...not to mention stress of going thru divorce, new job, caring for strong willed 4 year old who is playing one parent against another...

Her immune system is prob. all messed up...what to fight?

Marnie,

Maybe you need a second opinion.

I have a history of ovarian cysts and see a women's medical specialist at Jefferson Hospital, on a regular basis.

One of the tests he gives me right in his office is a "vaginal ultra sound". I get this test every 3 - 4 months depending on my cyst production.

This test immediately shows "on the screen" what type of cysts it is and the dimensions.

Most are functional. (fluid filled) and go away on their own. There are about five main types of cysts. You can look this up on the web.

Usually, there is a follow up for 3 months to monitor whether the cyst gets bigger or goes away on its own.

Since I was in the hospital in Jan. for a ruptured cyst, which is extremely painful--more than childbirth, he put me on Mircette aka generic: Kariva, to regulate my period, and reduce my production of ovarian cysts.!

Good luck and hope you seek a good specialist.

Daughter had an ultrasound. Technician said she saw something on the ovary. Doc said not to worry. (She was on Yaz at the time.)

Yea, right....don't worry. Ovarian cancer is silent. She is down to a size 0-2.

My daughter trusts this doc.

When pregnant 4 yrs ago.. severe hyperemesis. Early labor. Halted, but grandaughter born 1 month prematurely.

You better believe I'm thinking...Mg level problem...hormone connections...

And I am praying...

This is my daughter, not me...I am talking about.

SHE was the one on Yaz.

She went to 8 eye specialists...including the "expert" for dry eyes in NY.

Who did not know H. Pylori can -> a H. Pylori lymphoma behind eyes.

8 eye docs...allergist...all different dx's and different Rxs which are NOT working/helping.

To all...I just figured out my daughter's problem and am so excited!

She has a hx. of allergies...major...esp. to mold.

She has a hx. of premature labor too and needed IV Mg to halt it.

She was on the BC pill, Yasmin (Yaz) which causes hyperkalemia - high potassium.

Guess what...

"Magnesium is required for adequate processing
of potassium."

That drove her Mg levels LOWER (to process potassium)...up go the inflammatory cytokines and COX-2 -> PGE-2 -> HO-2 kicks in. Instead of HO-1.

We use Mg as an anti-inflammatory and anti-histamine.

The inflammatory cytokines have been doing a "number" on her eyes.

Now...finally, this is falling into place.

Far infrared 880nm delivers 2 photons to ADP -> ATP and ATP

WILL and DOES drive Mg back into the cells...

Which means...IF you are using far infrared, it is likely a good idea if about an hour before you do a treatment, take some Mg and a B complex. Mg works WITH the B vits...esp. B6.
