I know some people have muscle problems while on Cipro. I have been on and off of it (on currently) for several months. The only problem I have had is gastrointestinal- lots of burning.
Remember to always take with food and take your probiotics at least 2 hours away from taking your meds.
Good luck, Suzy

I had alot of stinging pains on floros.
But they appeared to be a herx, and not a side effect.

It was great for me (for bart) while it lasted, but I had to stop due to tendon problems. My tendons have recovered though. Just be aware that you should stop if you have tendon pain.

I was on Cipro for another infection and felt great. The brain fog cleared.
I went off as it was just temporary for 21 days. As time went on, I felt worse again (was on Lyme and babs meds). I got a clinical diagnosis of bart and got put on Levaquin.
I had a much stronger herx on Levaquin, but after 12 weeks, felt GREAT and got off the Levaquin.
I had no problems with either med.

Hi Feelfit,
I'm taking cipro now for bart, same dosage you are. I'm having no problems.
I still do my medium weightlifting, but with cipro, I don't push it. I lift what I have in the past or less. I spend less time with that and more time stretching in a warm pool.
I've been taking it over 2 months and I'm doing fine. Levaquin, as I understand it, is a LOT stronger and that's where difficult tendon troubles can happen if you overuse your muscles.
I want to be able to take Levaquin at some point, as I've had bart for decades. But the cipro is bringing herxes (so is Mepron for babs!) I figure when I take Levaquin my germ load will be less and I'll have an easier time of it.

Daise, I still did weightlifting with Levaquin, but did not do squats with free weights, or other exercises that had potential for damaging tendons. I used mostly machines for legs.
I also quit playing racquetball during that time.
It was a great drug for me, but the herx was tough. Seems to have gotten rid of the bart quickly.

I was on cipro and levaquin at different times, obviously and I feel I had some of my best reversals during those two meds. Would depend on your bart load.
I know many have spoken of horrid side effects, but for those of us that it helped, we love these meds. Good luck to you.

Hi sixgoofy,
Thank you so much!
I'm taking what you wrote to heart for the future. Weightlifting has been very much a part of my recovery, yet with cipro and levaquin that alters my routine!
As long as I have many months of machine weightlifting, do you know if warm pool stretching that is very intense could damage tendons while taking cipro or levaquin?
For guests reading this, for more information on physical therapy and machine weightlifting to vastly improve recovery while in Lyme treatment go to www.ilads.org and click "Treatment Guidelines," which brings you to Dr. B's 33 pages of tips for 2005.

I've been taking Levaquin now for almost 4 weeks. (note this is after almost 12 years of other Lyme oral antibiotics and a slow increase of symptoms over last year.)
The Levaquin gave me a mother of a herx but it only lasted about 2 weeks...and now I am feeling better than I have in years.
I do worry about the tendon thing having heard some stories of ruptured tendons. Would not do anything strenuous whilst on it and for a month or so afterward from I have read.
