I had my first LLMD visit today. I felt like it went well. He was very thorough.

When we went through the list of symptoms and tests he diagnosed me with bartonella.

My meds are:

Rifampin - 600mg Mon-Fri (300mg the first week)
Azithromycin - 600mg Sat-Sun
Doxycycline - 200mg daily

Has anyone else been on this protocol? How did it work for you? What can I expect? Thanks in advance!

Most new patients are not aware of the issues with Doxycycline...so I wrote up some info below for you.

There are several Doxy Do's (or Don'ts):

-avoid milk and all dairy products within 2 hours of your abx - including ant-acids, many dairy products are hidden, so check labels.

-avoid all iron supplements within 2 hours of your abx. Otherwise the potency of the abx could be reduced. This is true of all drugs in the tetracycline family.

-avoid the sun- including protecting eyes and hands even in the car. Burns can happen very quickly.

-avoid laying down for at least half an hour to prevent esophageal burning.

-be sure to take with food.

-do not ever crush your meds.

-do a thorough drug interaction check with any other meds.

-be sure you are doing pro-biotics to replace the `good' bacteria' being killed by your abx.

-be sure you are following the special low-carb/ low-sugar diet.

-be sure to drink tons of water with fresh lemon.

-and...be sure to go easy on yourself...doxy is known as a tuff med...so give yourself a little break when needed.

-most patients feel the first reactions of any new meds around the 3-4 day mark as their blood levels reach an optimal point.

Be prepared for an increase in symptoms...however, also read in advance what you should watch out for as far as side effects and when to call the doc!

For more information re: doxy treatment, please see Dr. B's guidelines...

Rifampin and Mino or Doxy are very common treatment for Bartonolla. I took this for 2 months and it helped. Many symptoms gone.

Also positive and treated for Babesia.

Starting Lyme treatment now.

All disease must be treated- there is some overlap therapy. Yours sounds like a Bartonolla and Lyme treatment.

--------------------
Positive 10 bands WB IGG & IGM
+ Babesia + Bartonolla and NOW RMSF 3/5/09 all at Quest

And still positive ELISA and WB two years after IV treatment
