So, I had an allergic reaction to isopropyl+adhesive under the tagaderm for my picc line.
The skin got oozy with yellow crust and looked like poison ivy. We tried numerous dressing change alternatives, many supplied by you kind folks including duoderm, a latex-free tagaderm, telfa and pectin dressings. All to no avail.
Once the skin was compromised it just got worse and then last night there was oozy yellow liquid around the insertion site. I was basically up all night terrified that it would get infected.
The home health care just pulled the picc line today. They already tried another dressing change yesterday. Now I have to drive 100 miles each way tomorrow to LLMD for tomorrows infusion and then drive back on Monday for reinsertion.
I know I shouldn't be whining but when you have to organize child care and a ride for each, plus fight with insurance, it becomes overwhelming.
UUUGGGGHHHH. I hate this *(#*&$% disease. Oh, and by the way, my mother-in-law just presented with a high fever 103 and a bullseye rash. Yeah, she's on doxy already.
I've had it.

mama, i feel for you ... all you are going thru on the picc line allergies; having to drive 200 miles roundtrip when a hospital or clinic should be able to do what is needed, and now your MOM-IN-LAW with a fresh bulls-eye!!
best wishes and hang in there!!!
in our community, we have what is called HOMEWARD; going to your home and provide nurses/LPN service. do you have anything like that could INFUSE YOU?

I don't know what to say to help you, I wish there was more we could do to help one another.
My 14 year old daughter is getting ready for her 2nd PICC on Aug 4. Her first was when she was 8 yrs old, she had the same problem you did.
She had blisters form and they would tear off the tape and she'd scream every dressing change. Horrifying for both of us! She managed to keep it in for 56 days. This time we're shooting anywhere from 30 to 90 days.
I'm afraid she'll do the same thing this time. If anyone has had success with any kind of adhesive after presenting with blisters, I would sure appreciate their input.
As her day draws near, I'm petrified! A kid shouldn't have to go through so much *#@)!!!
I hope your next PICC goes better. I am going to get tape at my local drugstore and let her wear it for a few days to see if she has reactions. I'm praying we will find one that doesn't irritate and will hold.
Take care,

We don't have a local home infusion co that I know of, but I will ask around. We do have an infusion ctr that the local ID doc who's head of ID for our two local hospitals set up. He's as aggressive as he "can" be, which isn't very.
As far as testing skin for adhesives-- this is what I found. I did a test of tape over betadine and ispropyl. I am allergic to the alcohol plus adhesive, not alcohol or adhesive alone, so you should try a few different combos.

I had bad reaction to initial dressing-took two weeks to clear up-but I kept the picc, just switched dressings, a white gauzy looking thing.
The brand name is in the "Reporting From the IV Line " thread, if you feel like wading through the first part.(in general support) I believe several alternatives were discussed on there by other people, too.
you/someone mentioned being allergic to bandages i think??
if you do a search, found at top
type in 3M medical subject any date member no. 6147, mine
click send; read any/all with that in...
i got some good 3M stuff to apply PRIOR to bandages and it doesn't RIP OFF MY SKIN! don't know if this is what you are talking about or not ... but thought i'd add this ok!

Thanks for the info on the 3M product. I researched it and found that Nexcare makes it and it's a skin protectant made just for that.
I went to my local pharmacy, but all they had was a package deal for surgical wounds that had pads, tape, and 3 small disposable vials of the protectant.
I am going to try to find it and order it online before my daughter endures the blistering.
Take care,
