Yesterday, I was diagnosed with Shingles. I started on Valtrex (about 44 hours after the rash appeared). Left shoulder pain, the area of the rash, seems to have intesified over the past day or two.
For those of you who have experienced this, how long did your pain last?
Also, left arm pain (and tingling) has been one of the symptoms I have associated with Lyme for several years. Could these symptoms have come from the dormant virus, rather than Lyme?

My husband was diagnosed with shingles about 72 hours after the bumps and lumps appeared on his forehead, and he did not have much pain. I hope you caught it in time for the same to be true for you.
In a strange way, it was a good thing for him to have the shingles emerged. That alerted our (new) LLMD that viruses might be in the picture. Sure enough, he tested positive for some of them (don't have the results at hand, so can't tell you which). So, the shingles turned out to be a bellwether of sorts, and husband is still on the Valtrex.
I don't know if you've been tested for viruses, but if not, it may be something to consider.
Best of luck, and again, hope you caught this early enough to minimize the effects!

I am wondering if shingles may be a positive indication of some sort (ie, surfacing a virus)--or is it basically just another thing to deal with?

So sorry! I am just now getting over shingles myself, and I have to say that it was NO FUN!
The pain came on about a week prior to the actual rash, and lasted a couple of weeks after that. I am 6 weeks into my diagnosis now and the arm is still red.
The quicker you get meds in you the better. And please know that you are contagious while the blisters are still there.
If you do a search here, you will find lots of good info, it does seem to be a common virus for us.
Good luck, M
