Anyone know from experience or otherwise how long flagyl and/or die off toxins from flagyl treatment can still cause neurological havoc AFTER flagyl is discontinued?
thanks.. dill

I see my LLMD this week, so I can let you know what he says Dilly.
I hope others can chime in.

Do you mean, How long can the herx last after stopping the use of Flagyl?
What dosage of Flagyl were you on? Was is oral or IV?
Flagyl herxes are very rough and can last a while. One patient of a LLMD I use to see claimed sh herxed fo several weeks after stopping flagyl... but that is rare.
For me, it would take sometimes 2-3 full days after the peak of the herx, to let the herx die down and I was just taking a 1/4th of a flagyl!

I know the rule of flagyl is not to drink alcohol for 2-3 days following it.
So......I think 72 hours for it to clear your system.
However, if you are following the flagyl with an antibiotic, then probably herxing.
That is how it was for me.
Always felt fine on day one of flagyl. Day 2 felt worse with horriffic headache.
Day 3.....basically non-functioning.
Followed by 4 days of antibiotics.
Days 2-3 were miserable.
However, over time this did tend to get better, less intense and not last as long.

tx for replies. i don't think i asked question right. though, so will try again.
i took flagyl for 6-7 days, and it was very very wicked in every way. i also am quite sure it crossed the brain barrier and was killing ketes, the first time i fe;t that in my brain.
Geneal, i looked up hald life of flagyl so know that the med itself can't still be in my system 3 weeks later, which is about how long it has been since i discontinued flagyl from concerns about neuropathies.
what i am wondered is, i feel like i have never "bounced back" from the depths flagyl dragged me into. if anything, many of my neuro symptoms have steadily worsened since then.
at the momemnt, it would actually be a hopeful thing to me to beleive that what i am experiencing right now is attributable to flagyl-aftershocks, because those will presumably subside.
not sure if i have expalined this well yet, but am trying.
tx again. dill

Well...
Flagyl is normally used as a cyst buster. So, perhaps it did bust open a few cysts and now you have disrupted the normal pattern of things.
It may take at least a full cycle to calm back down?

My friend,
Are you taking anything else?
If you busted open those cyst forms and are currently on antibiotics....
Well the big herx truck is parking outside your house.
If not.....may want to call LLMD and tell them how you are feeling.
Please keep us posted.
Sending you positive thoughts and prayers.
Hugs,

thnak melanie and geneal..
i have spoken to my llmd several times about this topic, but her experience with flagyl in terms of things going as neurologiclly/psychologcally "wrong' as they have with me are very limited; understandably, she is unwilling to hazard a guess whether this bad and brand new place where i am is even flagyl related, or whether is is unrelated deteoriation.
she's sending me a lyme neurlogical specialist who i will see in mid-august. i'm in vrey bad sshape right now, and an am looking for sources of hope to sustain me until then.

Perhaps the cyst busting activated latent viruses like Epstein-Barr, CMV or something?
Have you had viral AB titers checked?

I've been doing some reading & I think the other med may increase the half-life of the flagyl causing it to remain in the system longer & build up to higher concentration.
I'm not really sure if I'm understanding it though.
Maybe if you take a break from the other one, the flagyl will clear out?
