My daughter's doctor wants her to go back on Ketek. The last time she took it, she developed a really bad bug-crawling sensation in her lower back AND finally got a positive on bartonella test.
I am really scared to put her back on it, though I feel pretty strongly that it was getting to the deep tissue.
She has just built up to about 14 drops of samento and 1 drop of cumanda; and she is also taking oral Ceftin.
Any thoughts on adding Ketek?

I am taking Ketek and have the same bug crawling feelings. I went off of it for a while because I am pregnant but went back on it after my 12th week. I have notices a difference in just a week so I am sure I have Bartonella. My panic attacks were severe and I had the pain in the back of my head. I think the bart is worse than the lyme at this point.
I think she should stay on it.

I took Ketek long-term, and made the most progress on it of any abx.
I continued taking it after the warnings came out, too. Had monthly liver panels to keep an eye on everything.
Never had problems, just made lots of improvements.
Dr B, at a recent lecture, said Ketek was the best for hitting lots of bugs. He recommended liver panels every 2 weeks rather than once a month.

Ruth, What happened to the bug-crawling when you went off? Did it go away? When you went back on, what differences did you notice? The bug-crawling for her never went away, even after stopping Ketek. I am trying to discern if it was medicine induced or the medicine uncovering bart.
Thanks for responding. How exciting that you are pregnant! Are you doing okay?

I have been taking it for several months - only good results.
But I have heard that some people who took it (not Lymies, some other patients) had some liver problems and a few even died. Still, I think it is a drug worth the risk.
Anyway, people die from Rocephin also.

The first abx I was was on were Ketek, Omnicef, and plaquenil ( not really abx). I was on that for 8 months and made great progress. It has slowed since then.
Be sure she's on milk thistle and gets her liver panels done regularly.

I took Ketek severval years ago for a throat infection and basically lost my ability to see while on it. No thanks. I'm done with that drug.

I've been told that the best results come from a combo of Ketek and Bicillin LA shots

I have been on Ketek for 2 months now and something is swishing things around in my body.
Since I'm also on a few IV meds with the oral Ketek, it's really hard to know which is doing what.
My LLMD has me giving blood once a week and so far, the liver panels are doing fine, but he's definitely watching it.
It's been a REALLY REALLY bumpy ride the last few months, but when you have so many meds you are pumpping in your body, it's hard to know what is doing what. You just want relief. Good luck.

Ketek has been the best drug for me, overall, of anything I've taken. I took it with bicillin shots for a long time, but now my new insurance won't cover the bicillin, so I'm just on Ketek in terms of antibiotics. It gives me bad intestinal symptoms, but other than that, I'm doing fine on it.
