I notice after being on cefnidir for a while that mosquito like bites emerge which are very itchy. Mostly on my legs and face. I am 99% confident it is not an allergic reaction to the meds because they are sporadic and prior to Lyme I never had trouble with this med. My doc explained them as the "bugs" in my skin dying off. Anyone else experience this too?

I get these all over my legs. It looks like a flea or a chigger bite - or small misquito. My doctor also told me that lyme likes to live in the skin so it was lyme related and not necessarily antibiotic related.

From DrugDigest.com:

What side effects may I notice from receiving this medicine?

Side effects that you should report to your doctor or health care professional as soon as possible:

* allergic reactions like skin rash, itching or hives, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue
* breathing problems
* fever or chills
* redness, blistering, peeling or loosening of the skin, including inside the mouth
* seizures
* severe or watery diarrhea
* sore throat
* swollen joints
* trouble passing urine or change in the amount of urine
* unusual bleeding or bruising
* unusually weak or tired
...

There sure are many skin type things listed as side effects. You know, you can develop allergies to meds over time that you were not previously allergic to.

Perhaps, if it gets to be a big problem, you might consider switching meds?

Is there anything that relieves the itching? Calamine, aloe vera gel, oatmeal baths?

Feel better,
M
