Please read the threads others have posted on how to donate if you are able to. His case is very much in arrears for payment to attorney. Anyone who is wealthy and who reads this plea should consider helping in a substantial way, even if they have no sick kids.

This is the preeminent lyme pediatrician in the world. The state of CT apparently wants to see kids with lyme die. We have to support Dr. Jones.

What do you think other lyme docs will get as the take home message if even Dr. Jones can't get enough financial support to continue?

It is disgusting and a crime that a doctor of this quality is being run out of business. When he is gone, who else is going to take those cases?

I never heard of Dr. Jones before today, so can someone please briefly fill me in? From all the posts I've skimmed through, it sounds like there is a dire situation. I'd like to help out but would like to learn a bit more first.

I'll also try to google him and his current efforts, but I have very limited energy....

My understanding so far is that he needs money for his attorneys, and he is not asking for us to donate to his medical practice?

Are any Lyme groups contributing to his attorney fund? I would think they would be the best source of funds in this type of situation.

Also, why have no attorneys offered their services pro bono? This sounds like the type of cause in which attorneys would love to get the media attention that goes along with such a case.

Again, I'm totally in the dark, so please excuse any lame assumptions I've made :-)

Hi Erica,
it's Blinkie!

Dr Jones is the pediatric lyme specialist on the east coast. He is very old and he works long hard hours to help lyme kids get well.

He is also helping me. You know my situation and my Dr was able to contact him to get my new treatment plan. Without him, I might not be where I am at this point.

This YouTube site, featuring Dr. Jones in an excerpt from "Under Our Skin," was created by Andy Abrahams Wilson (creator of the documentary itself) - in an effort to help Dr. Jones meet a critical, imminent fundraising deadline to retain his legal defense team. This is a wonderfully generous act on the part of Andy and Open Eye Productions!

Dear Folks,

We've created a YouTube site with an excerpt from UNDER OUR SKIN featuring Dr. Jones. There is information at the end of the clip and in the description on YouTube about how to donate. Please feel free to distribute widely!
The site can be accessed at www.YouTube.com/DefendLymeDoctors

Hope this helps!

July 7, 2008

Dear Friends,

Urgent! I must raise $90,000 by July 14, 2008 and an additional $110,000 by August 10 in order to retain the legal team which has been representing me. If these sums are not raised, I will not be able to continue defending the charges brought against me by the Connecticut Department of Public Health for my treatment of children with Lyme disease, and I fear that I will be forced by the Connecticut Medical Examining Board to resign my license to practice medicine and to retire. This must not happen!

I understand all too well the considerable hardship that Lyme disease has imposed on too many families, and regret the need to appeal to you yet again for donations to my legal defense fund. Yet the prospect of surrendering this critical fight is more daunting: If I do not continue to oppose these charges, how many more physicians will be left vulnerable to similar charges for their treatment of Lyme disease? How many more sick children will be abandoned?

I recognize that the figure of $200,000 appears overwhelming. However:

* If 10,000 families contribute $20, we will be able to meet our goal;
* If 4,000 give $50, we will be able to meet our goal;
* If 2,000 give $100, we will be able to meet our goal;
* If every member of the Lyme community gives something, we will reach this goal!!!

I am confident that we can succeed, but I need the help of each and every one of you. Time is of the essence and you must respond today. In return, I pledge to you that I will not give up this fight.

With my greatest appreciation,

Dr. Jones

Charles Ray Jones, M.D.

Erica-

the law firm representing Dr. Jones has been exceptionally generous and accommodating- way beyond what could possibly be expected or hoped for by any of us.

at the end of the day, though, those attorneys cannot work for free for an indefinite time and stay in business. life just doesn't work that way.

i knew it was a genuine crisis when i heard that that this awesome legal team, which has been 100% dedicated to Dr. Jones and to this cause along, can no longer represent him without the sums that Dr, Jones is asking us to raise.

the need is as genuine as it is urgent.

I am sorry, but I still don't understand what charges this doctor is having against him.

I asked on another thread. It sounds as if he has helped many, many people which is very commendable.

VERY SIMPLY:

Before these two children, who were to be new patients, came to see him, over the phone he renewed a prescription for an antibiotic for a week.

This prescription was for a cough one of the children had. Mom couldn't get a hold of the regular pediatrician, Dr Jones was kind enough to call in a one week (or five day maybe) refill.

Secondly, after meeting the kids and diagnosing and treating them for Lyme, he continued to prescribe for them for maybe a year without seeing them in person.

His defense: Mom is an RN and was capable of monitoring the children, and he monitored them by phone with the Mom.

I don't know about you, but I have had prescriptions called in for myself and my kids MANY times by an on call covering physician who'd never met my kids.

I've also gotten refills for a year from my PCP without a follow up appt for several different meds.

I was at the final hearing, it was OUTRAGEOUS. The charges were for things probably EVERY doctor does regularly, and the punishment WAY out of line.

They kept saying it wasn't about Lyme disease, but it was. Never before has a doctor been brought up on charges for patients he CURED.

It is shocking that this is happening. If you were there, you would not believe it could be possible.

The final hearing was available on the internet for a long time, you could watch it firsthand if you can find someone that may have downloaded it.

I don't believe he did prescribe for a year without seeing them. And in the first case, he renewed another doc's prescription, because there was a six month wait before his schedule permitted the children to be seen by him. Because no one would diagnose or treat the lyme in Nevada. The mother had tried something like 17 doctors before she contacted him. The ex-husband reported those 17 doctors to the Nevada board and the charges were all thrown out.

But CT, where lyme is endemic and they want to put lyme doctors out of business, they accepted the charges and went looking for more bogus cases to use against him. Their clear intention is to put him out of business regardless of how many lies they have to tell in the process. Read the hearing transcript if you really want to understand it. If you want to be completely disillusioned with the govt response to an infectious disease epidemic, get acquainted with lyme politics.

The CT board said there was no lyme in Nevada, which was not true. And the children had been camping out of state in other places were there was definitely lyme. The whole thing was a frame up of a superior doctor who was making other CT doctors look bad because they would not treat children correctly, or at all. And the insurance companies and their stooges wanted him gone.

There really isn't time to post all the details about this case again for newbies. If you really are in a position to help with a donation and want to know more, please use the search function on this website to check the archives for a whole lot of information on this subject. And if any lyme doctor has helped you, and you are able to make a useful contribution, then this is your cause too, because every lyme doc they take down is going to make it less likely than any of us will get any treatment.

Seekhelp:

here are some previous threads, with summaries of hearing actions. This may not be all that is available, but if you did searches for
Berenbaum

or,
ellenluba

or
Dr. Jones hearing

you may find more info. I remember many
threads and discussions when
the hearings were going on.

The new charges were brought up later, when they decided to pull all the files.

They are trying to bleed him/crumble him with attorney fees and stress of constant harrassment.
Not a nice world, eh?

Apparently, the person with access to the paypal account is away on vacation, and the money can't be used until that person returns with the code. For immediate use of the money, they need it in checks to above address.

How long is this person on vacation? If checks are sent then snail mail time has to be added to the time necessary for clearing the checks by the bank-which can take up to two weeks for personal checks out of state.

I never heard of Dr. Jones until I read a fantastic book, CURE UNKNOWN, by Pamela Weintraub. (And I live in Hamden, CT where he practices!)Maybe that's why I can't get any help from the quacks here.

I would really like to help, but find it absolutely impossible this thread with my brain problems.

It would help if everyone could please stop reposting the old wrong addresses. It is just adding to the confusion.

Please just place a post with a single CORRECT ADDRESS, thank you.

Edited to add:
I just did a google search and found this information for the 2007 New Haven Chamber of Commerce. It has a phone number and email for Mr. Heath. Just wondering if anyone has tried contacting him for an update on the status of the situation? I just emailed him to ask for current status and accurate info. I will post regarding any response received.
