my neighbor invited me this weekend for cookout. she has a dog, and I think she told me that the dog got lyme last year, and was put on ABX for it. When she invited me , I remembered about the dog, and told her I had allergies to dogs, so she said she would put the dog in the basement . can we get lyme from dogs? I have it, but my kids are coming with me, should I just spray them with the tick spray. Can they catch lyme from the dog's tongue if he licks them? I called my llmd about this, but he has not returned call. HELP!!!I am paranoid.

I don't think you can "catch" Lyme from a doggie lick or by touching him.
If so, wouldn't hundreds of thousands of spouses, Moms and Dads, Brothers, Sisters,
And other animals have it? Just my very humble opinion.
My whole family has Lyme, yet my 7 dogs don't.

You should be fine. I think if the dog is around that's fine too. At the very most, if you're that paranoid, just tell your kids not to let the doggy lick their face/mouth.
Otherwise, I don't think their saliva on your hand or leg, etc., is going to do anything. Unless you have a cut or something on those areas. I wouldn't really worry about it. But I know, I am very paranoid about things like that myself.

My bigger concern with the dog would be that the dog has ticks on it--and by your children playing with this dog the ticks might go onto them, etc.
I would avoid the dog altogether. Let your friend put the dog in the basement, and leave it there.
Especially this time of year--We are treating our dogs with frontline, but we also have the children's cloths sprayed with tick repellent, and we do not allow the doggie back in the house until my husband has done a thurough tick check...Better safe than sorry

I got my neuro lyme from a neighbor's dog/tick - watch out for ticks! They told me this dog had battled "Lyme or something" AFTER I got it.... Arughhh....
