Good idea - however minocycline is ototoxic and can affect balance. Choosing this particular drug for "MS" patients is nuts - it's like they don't want it to work - or they want to prove the typical "MS" vertigo was not helped by the drugs.
And, of course, we all know that in many cases, MS has a link to lyme + co.
Some, however, seem to do fine with minocycline and it does have its benefits - but many have troubling effects from it and it can cause permanent damage for those with the vestibular toxic effects.
If taken, some studies suggest that NAC &/or B-6 can help offset some of the toxic effects, but if anyone has any vertigo, tinnitus or other inner ear stuff, it could be a warning sign to go to another med.
more in some of the posts at this thread about that:

The fact that abx can treat MS though makes me feel better since I've been paranoid b/c my test results could mean MS. I'll just sit back and continue taking my abx and hope for the best I guess.

I was reading about Plaquenil too, and they use it to help people with Fibromyalgia, etc with their muscle pain.........but here's the catcher: it takes 3-4 months to start working!
Hmmmm......oh wait....doesn't treatment for tick diseases also take 3-4 months before it would begin to work?
There is probably a plausible medical reason as to why Plaquenil helps these people, but when I read that it just made me wonder if some of them are misdiagnosed.
I guess if you come across an ID doctor who is saying you don't have Lyme, just ask him for some Mino for your MS and Plaquenil for your Fibromyalgia!

Laura, if you have tick diseases, they can do things to your body that will make your MS tests come back positive, I believe.
Hopefully someone else will help me out with this, because I don't have anything to back that up.

Don't let it make you paranoid--what it means
is that probably the majority of "MS" patients are actually Lymies.
MY LLMD actually said that a Mayo Clinic doc, were he not
employed at the Mayo Clinic and thus allowed to do so,
would prescribe Lyme txment for AN patient presenting

My sister was misdiagnosed with MS (she actually has Lyme). There were test results that made her neurologist think it was MS...these were things that lyme had done. She had brain lesions on MRI. There was also a spinal tap done that showed she had demylination occurring. MS causes this, but lyme can too. Anyway, I think a lot of people out there who have MS might actually have lyme.

I went to the Mayo Clinic in 1-08 and was diagnostic with Primary Progress MS. It was based on evaluation, lesions on the spine, and evoked responses. My spinal fluid test was negative (but doctor would not change his mine).
Made appointment with Dr. K in Santa Fe and he says it is Lyme. I am praying it is Lyme and will fight the battle.

No one knows this but minocin is a front line lyme drug.
Since it used to cost alot, its still not used all that much. Resistence is low.
However, alone its not enough.
Efflux pump lyme employs purges this minocin, and all tetras and marcolides, (except for tigercycline)
But if you add a EP. inhibitor, it will then work better for the kill.
Natural ones that where shown to work in lab studies are black pepper, tyme, and rosemary.
The "ceftins" and penny class abx are safe from this efflux pump, thats why lyme goes cyst on these , it HAS too, or die!!!!!

Funny how the article says Mino works for MS by "blocking the action of cells thought to play a crucial role in the destruction of myelin."
How bout maybe it works by killing Lyme b/c MS is probably actually Lyme? Duh! It's so obvious to us why don't the "professionals" get it?
I don't think Mino is available in this country either.
James,
What you said about Ceftin and such being safe from the efflux pump makes me think I want to try ceftin again at some point. It was the second abx I was put on and had a major herx.
Since it makes Lyme go into cyst form however it would have to be taken w/a cyst buster, right? Problem is my LLMD doesn't Rx Flagyl. She says it's too dangerous. When she had me on Ceftin I was on Ceftin alone.
I wonder if she would let me pulse it though. Or maybe I should just take grapefruit seed extract w/it on my own?
