Hi- I just had my picc line inserted in my arm, and everything seems to have gone fine. They did it via radiology, so the placement should have been just fine.

However, I can FEEL the tube in my upper chest. It's not painful really, just feels almost like a small ache. Has anyone else had this feeling?

I had a PORT placement a few months ago, somewhat similar to a PICC line in that there is a catheter in my chest, however it is more permanent. If it's anything like a Port, which is definitely more invasive than a PICC, you'll be sore for a few days and than you shouldn't really feel anything at all. I don't even know my Port is there unless I hit it on something! [Smile]

Thanks, Rachellmarie, that makes me feel a lot better. How is the port working out for you? My doctor wanted to do the port since I carry around my 20-month-old all day, but I said I was too squeamish!! He said we'd give the picc a try. : )

Hi there,

When I had my PICC I was sore for a few days. My arm felt heavy and sound did my chest.

My llmd said it was chest wall causing the pain. I think it was gone within a week.

If your worried though give your LLMD a call. That is what I did and they did an xray of the placement just to ease my mind.

Thanks, Kit, I am seeing him tomorrow, so I will check. It makes me feel better that others had soreness as well. Whew.

I could feel the line in my chest. In fact, if I bent over, I felt like the line was choking me.

I could definately feel it the first 10 days. Then it faded.

Good luck.

Hi,

I felt similar sensations. The nurse who administered my first dose at the hospital said that the line would shift around for a week or two until it settled in. I found that to be true in my case. Once in a while in the 5.5 months of having the line, I would be aware of the line placement in my chest if I moved a certain way. Other than that things did settle down in about 1.5 weeks. Best of luck to you.

Thanks so much for your replies! It is already "settling in" a bit and not hurting so much.
