Has anyone had this experience?? I am low on iron, and both times I have tried to supplement with it, my symptoms flare.

Thanks.

I don't have an answer to your question, but when my daughter was told to supplement for her low iron, she was supposed to use ferrated iron.

I can't really remember why we were told to use that form of iron, but I think it had to do with babs.

You may be using ferrated iron already--just thought I would mention that. It did work for my daughter and wasn't very harsh.

Bacteria and viruses thrive on iron...the exception being the Lyme bacteria, which thrives on Magnesium. Bartonella and babesia live in the red bllod cells, so they can get at the iron therein.....maybe this is why you are flaring?

My LLMD told me not to take iron because certain bacteria need it. If you have an LLMD, it would be good to get their advice.

I take ferritan as my levels were low. My LLMD says bacteria eat iron up. I do not think that ferritin supplementation has made my symptoms better/worse.

Iron will block thyroid meds if you're taking any. With thyroid meds, take iron at least 4 hours apart.

Iron supp. has seemingly made me more tired at times so I suppose it's possible that it either interferes with the absorption of other key nutrients or it's feeding Babs or other co-infections.....
