I had tick bit last summer and I did not know this disease until my left knee started swelling this March. I had three weeks IV Cegtriaxone and 3 weeks Doxycycline. My right knee started to swell too one week after IV started. I've been seaching internet, tried different way to help myself. Most symtoms went away or are not server enough for me to care about. But my arthritis is still with my both knees. My walking is limited. If I use my leg too much, the knee apparently will be damaged. Withougt getting much help from the infectious specialist I was seeing, I visited a doctor in Arthritsi and immumonloy dept. in a famous hospital, he prescribed me Prenisone and an immune supressant.

I am wondering if anyone here have similar experience treating lyme arthritis.

Hello and welcome.

First- please do not take that prescription. Steroids are contra-indicated for Lyme disease.

You really should hop on over to the 'Seeking a doctor' section, and post to ask for help in finding a physician who is educated in treating tick-borne diseases. Obviously, your current doctor is not.

It sounds as if you are in need of continued treatment to me.

My best,
Melanie

Thank you for the reply. I did get some doctors information from here. My next appointment will be in September, hopefully he will give me better advice. It is not easy to see a doctor even you are sick. [Frown]

Do not take the steroid!!! If you have

Lyme and do that, it will ruin you--one of our

best researcher-doctors actually employs

the term "steroid disaster" to describe the

patientwho has experienced a massive

exacerbation of their illness during

immunosuppressive therapy.

Ditto on the steroids. Taking them can make it extremely difficult to ever completely beat the Lyme. Antibiotics [extended treatment] will be MUCH more likely to resolve the pain than the steroids.

Steroids are a short term fix to a long term problem.

I personally have a very long history with Bb and severe arthritis. Actually have nodules on every joint in my body that are visible and palpable, but NOT Rheumatoid.
These started to appear waaay back in the 1980's when i was given massive doses of PREDNISONE (a steroid).

ALL STEROIDS ARE CONTRA for LYME! PLEASE DO NOT ever take an immune suppressant!

The small joint arthritis (in me) is from MOLD, not Bb and the large joint problems are from Bb (or Lyme)I have found.

I took a Lyme remedy made homeopathically and I tested clean for a year.
I took another homeopathic remedy and am now clear of small-joint pain.

This is after approx. 6 years of on-off chelation and antibiotic therapy using Cilantro and we use of form of "Resonance Testing" to determine what is wrong, when and what is needed to fix it, in terms of Rx medications.

Recently (the last year or more) we have stopped all Rx and are using food, supplements and other natural and homeopathics, and they are working to keep all the bacteria and viruses under control.

Cheers and good luck.

Just last week i recurred a Lyme infection after a year of being clean.

Thank you all. The information are very useful for me.

It feels so great I can say something that will be understood by someone.

It has been almost half year now. I am so frustrated becasue I have two young kids to take care.

I can see this is a long-term fighting with this ugly disease. But at least I find a place that I can communicate my thoughts and worries, and I have a group of great people helping me. [Smile]
