My 3yo son has been telling me the past three days that he "sees dots" when he closes his eyes at naptime.

He has Lyme, and has been being treated with oral abx for two months. He complained of eye pain a few weeks ago, but stopped, until just recently. He's having a hard time taking a nap, but I know he needs it because he is so tired, and his eyes are kind of red and glassy, but when I've laid down with him the last few days, he keeps telling me he sees dots, and his eyes hurt.

I don't know if this is because it seems to have gotten a reaction from me, or if this is really happening too...

i think i understand what your son is talking about. i get them too when i close my eyes. basically its from inflammation. your eyes are all puffed up and when you close your eyes shut you have dots because of the pressure. (like someone is gently apply pressure to your eye balls) i'm starting to think all my eye problems are bart related, i have the red eyes in the morning as well. i will treat my bart soon and keep you posted.

I wonder if it might possibly be floaters. Sometimes people see them with light coming through their eyelids.

Sometimes floaters collect as debris from dead bacteria, and often clear up as treatment progresses. Ask him if they are circles, or if they look more like spaghetti and meatballs (a common floater shape.)

Thanks for the ideas. I'll try to get more info out of him. He had an expressive speech delay before all this started so sometimes it's hard to get what he's really trying to communicate. I've got "oweeee" "hurt" "me tiiiirrrrddd" down, but sometimes it's a guessing game.

Sometimes I see dots that are my floaters. Other times I see light flares that are circular & go away eventually if I put on my eye shades to sleep.

funny! I have some that look like strands (I guess those would be the spaghetti) and on the 'spaghetti' will be one or two 'meatballs' I also have a few black dots floating around. Sometimes I think there is a fly in my milk and it's a black floater in my eye!
