My 7 year old daughter will be starting Mepron in a couple days for babs coinfection. (The pharmacy has to order it and we have to come up with the money as the price is extremely steep.)
Anyway, I was wondering how people have responded to the medication.
We assume that she was bitten back in April or May and she didn't develop the bullseye until later in June.
She began antibiotics then and is still on them. Her FISH test for babs was positive and she exhibits most of the babs symptoms.
Any success stories people want to share?? Any not-so-successful stories you want to tell??
I just want to know what to look for when she begins the meds as I feel like a schmuck for writing off the babs symptoms as rxns to her meds or Lyme symptoms.
Thank you!!
Melissa

On your other post, you were given a link to Bridges to Access. You could qualify for FREE mepron. Please check it out before you go into debt for this medication.
Tell your doctor about your situation. There may be another medication that could help in the meantime. Some here found Bactrim to be helpful in babesia treatment.
Yes, there are side affects to mepron. You may want to start her out on 1/8th tsp every day and work up slooooowwwly to theraputic dose.
Before you shell out $1200, please check the alternative.

I did better on Malarone then Mepron. Mepron made me really depressed but everyone is different and your daughter may do really well on Mepron. Just make sure she eats fat with her Mepron so that it is absorbed better.
I think you are suppose to eat 22 or 23 grams of fat with each dose.

Mepron is usually taken with zithromax, so ask your llmd about that.
There is a wide range of reactions to mepron; some people just feel better, and others can find it more difficult. Hope your daughter responds well to it.

I LOVE Mepron! It has made me feel soooo much better in a very short amount of time.
I realize that the symptoms that were making me feel the most sick must have been from babesia and not lyme because Mepron makes me feel great!
It can be hard on the liver so be sure your daughter's doctor plans on taking at least a monthly blood test to view how her liver is doing.
I've been on Mepron for three months now and have had no side effects and my blood work has been fine.
Do you have insurance? With a positive blood test, my insurance has not given me any trouble about paying for Mepron. I only pay a $35.00 co-pay for each bottle.
However, if you don't have insurance or they won't pay for it, I would look into that program where you can get it for free that a couple others have mentioned.
