Hi Angelica,

Wow, they all seem to have magnesium stearate!

I have tried many different probiotics and this one is absolutely the best by far. http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?c=1&pid=4932

It has many strains and the CFU is high and it is enteric coated. It must be refrigerated, I order it from Iherb.com because they send it in a Styrofoam cooler w/an ice pack.

But it does have magnesium stearate, I just saw that. I have checked quite a few, seems they all do so far.

If I find one w/o ms I will post again.

Take care.

Whoops!

I just noticed it does contain the dreaded MS listed under "Other" ingredients.

It is in so many probiotics unfortunately.

Buhner lists one in his book but I tried that one which does not need refrigeration and it did not do much for me.

It looks like Pharmax sells probiotics w/o it and I found another link that specifically says they do not use it:

Here are a couple...this was a tough one.

http://bio-alternatives.net/probiotic.htm
This one reads: "Other companies charge FAR MORE for inferior products that deliver dead microorganisms and toxic fillers like magnesium stearate" This has a good price too...120 for $18! 5 billion CFU it looks like..hmmm..

Pharmax - http://store.evolvinghealth.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=19¤cy=USD

Well I just learned something....MS is in most probiotics and is considered toxic! Wow..had no idea.

Now I am going to have to study this more..very interesting.

Flora Synergy by Energetix apparently does not contain Mg stearate.

http://www.evitalhealth.com/Flora_Synergy.html

http://livingrawjoy.blogspot.com/2008/07/skinny-on-probiotics.html

``250 million spores of Lactobacillus Sporogenes in a natural fructose oligo-saccharide (FOS) base. Lactobacillus Sporogenes is the active probiotic in Flora Synergy. Some of the many unique benefits of Flora Synergy and Flora Chewable are:

* It is carried through the acidity of the stomach in a spore. Upon arrival in the duodenum, it germinates and multiplies

* Only produces gram positive bacteria which prevents metabolic acidosis often seen with other probiotics

* Survives antibiotics, heat and gastric juices

* Immune bacteria is the first line of defense in the immune system

* Helps to heal and seal the gut

* No refrigeration needed

* 100% non-allergenic ``

Label states that the product "does not contain dairy or dairy derivatives, stabilizers, oils, fats, corn, gluten, maltodextrin, salt, alcohol, colouring, egg, yeast, MSG, added flavouring or preservatives or irradiated ingredients".

VSL#3 Confirmed via double blind placebo controlled clinical trials to increase probability of remission in a variety of intestinal conditions, as well as improving symptoms in cases of Ulcertative Colitis.

I usually suggest people buy the capsules and just use one per day, given the cost. 112 billion per single capsule is plenty each day, for most patients.

Angelica, what's the problem with magnesium stearate? This is usually really safe..? Is it really "toxic?" Sorry, but I don't believe it.
