I've only been on Rifampin for a few days and my gut is a mess!

What gives?

I've read all kinds of posts on it and don't see anyone complaining about gut problems.

I don't see how I can continue it.

I was forced off antibiotics several years ago due to gut issues and went to rifing.

I thought my gut was ready for anything.

Not so I guess.

I've run a low grade fever for several weeks, so I'm taking Arteminisin with it. The rifing takes care of the Lyme.

Next thing on my list is Erythromycin.

Oh my.

I've been at this now for 3 1/2 years.

I keep having these horrible exacerbations.

I'm supposed to go on vacation next week.

Wouldn't you know it!

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Bug

I am herxing from the rifing as I specifically ran numbers for Lyme only.

Since I have been taking the Rifampin, I have had pain crop up in my feet along with diarrhea and burning pain in upper GI.

I am taking probiotics (Thera-lac) and plain yogurt. I also have been doing Aloe Gel for a few weeks.

In between doses or Rifampin I take charcoal.

I have read that the effect of Diflucan may be inhibited and I take that also.

Will move that to a few hours after Rifampin.

This a.m. my gut is better. I didn't take the Rifampin last night.

I think I will empty out part of the capsure with each dose before I give up.

Does this sound like a good plan?

Thanks!

Rifampin is on my personal list of one of the 3 antibiotics that allow yeast growth like crazy. [Eek!]

Augmentin is one. Flagyl is one. Rifampin is one. [shake]

It is true that rifampin can lower the effectiveness of diflucan.

I had to change my combo to diflucan and nystatin tablets during my initial run with rifampin.

My neighbor just started it for bartonella and immediately was with yeast from head to toe.

Has not had a problem prior.

May want to see about adding something else to counteract what may possibly be yeast.

At least try for a couple of days and see how you feel.

Hope you get to feeling better soon.

Hugs,

Geneal

Interesting! I just finished with some Augmentin as was not sure where the fever was coming from.

It's a mystery! These pieces help.

Thanks! Geneal....

My gut was such a mess from rocefin that I was given nausea medicine that they give to patients on chemo. It does a job on your stomach. As the other blogger said, I also took nystatin 3 times along with acidophilus and other probiotics
thru out the day. My home nurse also recommended
an herb called Uva Ursi that also helped my stomach. Hope that helps.
