I am now back in business after having my computer die on me and a move from Tallahassee to Crawfordville.
I have heard of a new doc in DeFuniak Springs, FL (near Pensacola), Dr. L. I have a friend who is seeing him and so far she really likes him.
Send me a private email and I will give you his name and phone no.
I am still going to Dr. M. in NYC, but may switch to Dr. L. once he becomes more established.
I was wondering if anybody has or knows someone with a condition called foot drop? I have had chronic Lyme since 2003, along with Bartonella.
The foot drop is from nerve damage to my CNS from both diseases. I can tell you that it is hell because I have limited mobility and have fallen many times.
No one seems to be able to help me. I have tried strength training, but I really think I need extensive physical therapy.
The physical therapy I did get I feel is inadequate for my condition.
I can handle my other Lyme symptoms, but the partial disability I have because of the foot drop is extremely depressing and hard to cope with.
They tell me my nerves are working, but there is a blockage some where. I have had electrical accupunture, with no improvement.
I can't seem to find anyone with this condition. My other symptoms, muscle aches, joint pain & fatique are common though.
Please let me know. Thanks.

I have stiffness in my left front shin area when I turn my foot up. I fear foot drop but I'm only 25. I also have left foot arch stiffness and cramping... The whole ankle area is tender when I swivel my foot around.
Have you had an EMG and what not? The only condition I've heard foot drop associated with isn't lyme its ALS.
I have had three nerve conduction tests with the first two being abnormal and then the third, after two years of ceftin/biaxin, being normal.
But, I still have the foot drop. I know people who have MS and ALS have this, but my point is that more than likely those illnesses are actually Lyme or Lyme induced.
MS is not a disease. It is a symptom. I was told I either had MS or an MS like disorder with Lupus. Imagine that.
Foot drop has made my life very difficult and I refuse to give up searching for a cure.
Doctors have told me that it probably is permanent.
But, these are the same medical professionals (insert sarcasm here),who told me that chronic Lyme doesn't exist or that I couldn't possibly have Lyme because I live in Florida.
They think 'cause I'm not in a wheelchair that I'm okay. But, you need both legs. Having one working leg is useless.

I know a lady with foot drop. She manages/works at a restaurant I sometimes visit. She has complained to me about this condition a number of times. She says her foot folds under when she walks.
The doctors have called it dystonia.
She has not found any cure for it yet. She has tried many doctors and many types of treatments. Now, she is trying non-traditional treatment.
Some type of practitioner has her on a special diet where she doesn't eat any sugar or things that turn to sugar in her body. I can't remember the other parts of the treatment, but it appears the person is treating this like the nerve damage is being caused by something like what happens in diabetes and is trying to do things to help the nerve regain normal function.
Nerves CAN recover sometimes.
I have often wondered if this lady could have lyme and not know it. (I live in a lyme endemic area.)
If you find anything that helps, please let me know so I can pass the info on to her. If she finds anything that helps, I will let you know.

Just asking here, but have you had a work up on your back. I would assume yes, but thought I'd ask.
Foot drop is common in spinal stenosis due to herniated verteblal disks. I tend to blame all my symptoms on LD, but if it's something else I hope I don't over look it someday.
I hope I don't blow it off thinking it's just another weird symptom of LD until it gets worse or even irreversible.
Just a thought, so I thought I would ask about a spinal work up. Take care and good luck!
