We need to take them to prevent yeast! I take one that many here also use, Theralac. www.theralac.com. It's pricey, but it's also great!

Yes, I would definitely recommend probiotics when taking an antibiotic.
Antibiotics wreak havoc with the "good bacteria" in your digestive system. Consequently, you can end up with an imbalance that causes diarrhea, nausea, stomach pains, etc. (Not to mention yeast infections for the females.) Taking a probiotic adds the good bacteria back into your digestive system. It also helps boost your immune system.
Probiotics should be taken at least an hour before (or after) the antibiotic, preferrably on an empty stomach.

Currently on 400 mg doxy and I do not take probiotic's everyday. What happens is that I take my abx and then try to space the probiotics out and often fall as sleep from fatigue before I remember to take my probiotics
I do have a fairly severe right side stomach problem which is undiagnosed at this time.
How do you you know if you need to take probiotics. Would I know it, if i was killing off the good bacteria

Not true you need to take pro biotics. I take mine from Metagenics it's called Ultra Flora Plus DF Capsules 15 billion per serving. I take two in the morining and wait 2 hours before taking my antibiotics. I take 1 in the afternoon and 2 more at 11p.m. to end my day.
I also doush as needed.

My take on probiotics is that it isn't worth the risk to NOT take them. By taking a few extra pills a day and making changes to your diet, you can avoid the complications of yeast overgrowth or candida (are they the same thing?).
I haven't had any yeast problems yet, so I've gotten more liberal with the complex carbs, but still take my probiotics religiously. I'm not willing to gamble with not taking them.
I also take the Metagenics Ultra Flora Plus DF capsules. The extra cost is worth the better quality when you are on long-term antibiotic treatment.

You must take probiotics to keep the healthy bacteria in your gut. Everyone should take them.
My LLMD made us sign a paper agreeing to take probiotics before he would prescribe antibiotics.
Good quality is important - Theralac, IFlora, BioK are all good brands, but it is also important to ROTATE your probiotics. My doctor recommends monthly.
If you start having diarrhea, add more probiotics, you can't really take too much. Space them two hours before or after your antibiotics.

Is this right or do I need probiotics?
Very incorrect! Yogurt is laced with sugar and sugar feeds yeast. It's also dairy and when your body is in "fight" mode, dairy is a no-no because of the mucus it creates Also, there are not enough units of bacteria in yogurt to replenish the gut. A person should be taking at least 20 billion units a day when on abx

Probiotics are MUST when on abx.
I disagree. I had bad nausea and started eating yogurt twice a day with ABX and probiotics and the nausea went away immediately.

GN,
It may have cured your nausea, but overall yogurt is not good for YEAST problems.
Good quality probiotics are absolutely necessary to avoid yeast and digestive problems (leaky gut) which are both really nasty.
For those on multiple abx, you would have to eat like 10 gallons of yogurt or more a day to equal the cultures in one good priobiotic pill.
