When I take it, I take it with my evening meal. I have noticed that I have more intense dreams and then feel more rested the morning after I take it, and that is why I try to take it closer to bed time. I have taken it at bed time without eating and felt like a hot poker was burning it's way from inside my stomach to my sternum, so I recommend taking it with food.

My instructions are to take it without food so I take it first thing in the morning. I only take 600mg and do not notice any difference. I am considering increasing my dose.
When I first started NAC a couple of years ago, I was much sicker. The bottle said take 3 x daily. That is 1800mg. It knocked me to the ground, so start slow.

I take mine when I wake up in the middle of the night. When I start sleeping through the night, I'll have to figure something else out. My LLMD wants me to take it away from other things.

My ND has me taking one NAC cap in the morning 1/2 hour before breakfast, and again 1/2 hour before dinner. I take it at the same time as my systemic enzymes--boluoke and plant enzymes. I just added lactoferrin at the same time.
My understanding is that NAC helps to circulate the glutathione in our bodies, and also may dissolve biofilm.
