I am directing this only to lymies that have 'neurological' sx's...specifically twitching, nerve pain (burning/stabbing).
My WORST sx is burning skin (mostly soles, lower legs, palms and lower arms).
Is it possible I have 2 issues going on? Lyme and some mechanical problem? I wonder (as does my LLMD now) since I get some level of relief from the nerve pain while walking and moving and lying down...but all goes haywire while sitting! He says he does NOT usually see this in Lymies!
I have a history of Cervical Spine, Lumbar Spine and Sacroiliac joint injuries. Although these injuries were chronic, I could always get relief from a chiropractic adjustment and life went on...
4 Months ago, I had an Igenex Lyme test - overall negative but I did have 12 bands as either + or IND...my LLMD didn't hesitate to treat me.
Just very confused? Just want to not feel like my skin is on fire...I do get INSTANT relief my moving and soaking in room temp water. Ex. I feel great in my cool shower or in a rain storm.
As far as 'other' lyme sx's, I have had some, but I am really healthy other this nerve pain.
Thanks for any advice, MBB3

deleted - I answered the wrong thread. Oh, my.
However, a particular medical mushroom, Lion's Mane, has been helpful for nerve repair in neurological disorders.
Wanted to ask about 'adrenal support'? Can you or anyone else comment on weather 'goosebumps' have anythning to do with the adrenal glands?
Even BEFORE my first nerve pain a few year back, noticed I started getting FULL BODY goosebumps to non-physical stimulus. Does adrenalin have ANY connection to this?
I have read that goosebumps can be driven by the Autonomic Nervous System, but is there a connection to adrenals too?
Just trying to figure this out...I can live with the goosebumps, however after they start, seems nerve pain heightens, may be a connection? Something to do with vasodialation too?
Thanks for any help, MBB3

When I was at my worst, I experienced some sharp burning rather excruciating short-lived pain. I was subsequently diagnosed and treated for babesia as well as lyme. You can always have two issues going on. I wondered the same about myself with so many strange symptoms.
In the final analysis it become my belief that if I developed a new symptom that I never had before I was sick with a co-infection, there was a darn good chance that it was caused by one or both of those tick borne diseases working in conjuction to drive me crazy. Nerves that do get damaged take along time to heal and to this day, seven years later, I still have an occasional twinge in the worst affected spot. I suspect yours may gradually subside also. Not much advice but best wishes.

For years my pain was only with sitting. ONLY WITH SITTING. I went in to see an ILADS doctor for a "quick rule out of Lyme" and was identified as having both Lyme and babesia. I am getting better. It doesn't sound like I was as sick as you, so it may take longer.
I thought I had "nerve entrapment" for a long time. I don't think I do anymore.
However, even if I had a nerve entrapment, I would still believe Lyme played a role in the pain through all the damage, inflamation, etc... it does. It makes "mechanical" problems that much worse; it makes some mechanical problems that the individual otherwise might not even experience symptoms from, experience excruciating symptoms.
You said that chiropractic adjustments helped with your other problems. Have you considered "atlas orthogonal" chiropractics to help with this problem? If it is somewhat mechanically based?

I agree that Lyme/Bart/Babesia inflammation or nerve damage can certainly 'amplify' alignment/pinch problems with nerves!
Yes, I tried an Atlas Orthogonal 'specialist' back in early 2007, a few months after nerve pain became unbearable in feet/hands. Made NO difference...
However, I have been told I have bone spurs at the C1/C2 Level along with disk bulges at C4/5/6...anyone with an understanding of the nervous system seems to agree that these misalingments could cause my sensory problems even WITHOUT Lyme!
Yet, in April 2008 I receive Igenex test results with 12 bands!!!
As far a being 'sick', I really am not currently sick, just have BAD nerve pain. However, I was 'sick' between 2003-2005 with many sx's aligned with Lyme.
So, I'm thinking I do have 2 problems to contend with...question is, which is easier to FIX to ease off the nerve pain? So far I have had NO resposne to Lyme/Bart tx even though I've only been at it 2 months and presume I could have been infected 10-15 years ago, I am 39 now.
I do have a VERY conscientous LLMD who is also considering the physical/mechanical aspects, I believe things can get better, I just need to figure out 'how' to make that happen and how long an improvement should take?

non lyme related but a possibility for your sij/hip/ pelvis -- have you ever had a "frog postioned" x-ray of your pelvis to check for hip femoroacetabular hip impingment???
also, not a llmd, but maybe checkout dr crosby in fort orlando, i think that is where he is..an osteopath and then some. he might be able to help with the nerve pains
and be sure totake in lethicin daily for nerve sheaths....
there are two conditions that are not related to lyme but tend to cause issues in the sij likeyours one is hip fai, one is sports hernia....i had the sports hernia, the fai is gonna be dealt with when i feel better from the lyme/etc
best of luck

Thanks for the tips...where is Fort Orlando? Maybe Orlando, FL ? Would be interested in finding this Osteopath if within driving distance?
I've read about the benefits of lecithin, is soy lecithin the same thing? I have a can of it, but have tried avoiding soy since I've read it can be injurious to nervous system.
BTW, B12 (at least in large doses), absolutely sends my sensory nerves into the burning zone!!! And magnesium, while NOT causing any painful sx's, does set off twitching.

I will suggest you see an Ortho or sports pain management dr. Perhaps something has changed or shifted in your spine and you have more damage.
I can't say if your problem is from lyme or from your spine. I seriously wouldn't assume it was from lyme, because in the end it can cause permant problems / damage.
I have had a lot of lumbar, hip, and sacroiliac problems.I am pretty sure I had undx'd lyme for 20 yrs, and just dx'd abt 2 yrs ago.
I can say, much of mine came from hard work, so when my back goes out, its usually because I moved the wrong way..Some days I don't have to move wrong for it to happen.
Abt 5 yrs ago, my unstable spine shifted so slightly, to cause the entrapment of 18 nerves.Pain pills did nothing to take the edge off, of al the different pains and burning I was getting.
An experianced Pain dr did stop the sacroliiac/ hip pains and all the lumbar and leg issues. There is a good site called www.spineuniverse.com that has a lot of info, on conditions and newer treatments.
""I get some level of relief from the nerve pain while walking and moving and lying down...but all goes haywire while sitting! He says he does NOT usually see this in Lymies!""
My Ortho told me sitting is the worst thing someone with back problems can do. I am not allowed to sit more than a a few mins at a time...So I too am always on the move or laying flat on my back.
Sitting is bad,{and so is standing in one place for a while} because it totally compresses the spine. Thus causeing any buldging discs to press more on the nerves, pinching them.
When your upright and moving, this allows the spine to expand and takes the pressure off the discs and joints.
Walking on concrete or just the back yard kills my whole body. Yet, in my house I am not bothered by the joint issues, because I have wooden floors the flex, rather than cement that shocks the joints. Sometimes people don't think abt these things as part of the problem.
I hope you find the right answer and are able to find relief soon.
