For those taking Rifampin, think we've all seen the 'bright orange/red' urine???
Anyway, I've been on Rifampin/Biaxin for 9 days...For about 6 days I had the typical orange pee, but now it gone back to normal color despite taking the same dose (300 MG/Twice per day) + 500 MG Biaxin XL/Twice per day.
What could this mean? Med is coming from same rx...Why would my body process it differently after 6 days? Also I had typical GI upset for about 5-6 days and that too is now normal - which is good, but unclear as to why? Would like to believe my abx is working?
Thanks, MBB3

Perhaps we can help each other out as I also have similar questions. Did the upset GI go away after a few days for you?
I just started yesterday, and I can already feel my stomach beginning to rebel. I also didn't read the side effects list before starting and just about flipped out when I saw the orange pee in the toilet. This morning, my doc's office told me that was perfectly normal.
Here's what's bothering me now, though. I took the pill around 11:30 this morning, and just about an hour ago (4:15), I began to develop a bitter taste in my mouth. That can be a sign of jaundice, but I am not jaundice and my liver feels fine. What do you think could be causing this odd taste? Could it be a medicine allergy?
Thanks and good luck,
Marc

I just started my rifampin Monday and have had the orange pee as well. Yesterday it was normal and today back to orange. Also had the GI upset that seems to have resolved itself.
I'm also taking Doxy 400mg with the Rifampin 600mg.

I did not take oral Rifampin, but my friend did, and our llmd warned her that her urine would change color.

Here is my observation-
once you take the meds, your urine will start to change to orange. As time goes on your urine starts to go back to normal until your next dose. Mine doesnt stay orange 24 hours just around when I take it.
