I have been put on the lowest dose (I think it is .025 mcg) of Synthroid by my family doctor. My TSH level was 3.61. T-4, Free 1.3, and T-4, total = 7.1.
I started taking Synthroid two weeks ago. The first few days I felt great. However, recently I have been feeling a little bit of joint pain and fatigued. I have a low fever on and off. The family doctor put me on Axithromycia (500 mg 1st day, 250 mg next three days.) The doctor of course put me on antibiotics thinking I had Strep Throat not Lyme.
I had the test done for Lyme disease, but it was negative. However, as many have already told my husband (who was writing earlier) negative doesn't mean anything. I am assuming that my husband and I both probably have Lyme disease. I am going to make an appointment with an LLMD in Pennsylvania on Monday. (I have three names if anybody has any really really good ones please let me know)
Does anybody know if it is because of my thyroid not being treated properly that I am feeling worst, or could it be the Lyme disease?
Also, until we wait for the LLMD's appointment should I start taking Doxycycline 400 mg / day? Should I wait to be finished with the Axythromacya, which I finish on Monday. (My husband is a doctor and can prescribe medicine for now until I get to the LLMD)
Please help. Thanks.

ohhh, Welcome!
I cannot comment on the meds - but, off the top of my head, I'd say finish the azithromycin on through to Monday.
Then, if you can get a prescription to hold you over until a LLMD appt., ask that LLMD with whom you schedule an appt.
S/he or an office assistant may be able to tell you about further meds. Although - not seeing you - they may not be able to comment.
(How fortunate that your husband can order Rx)
It may be important, since you have started on abx, that you continue on some form, or combination if you won't be able to see the LLMD for a while.
However, being on abx - if you have further testing - that can affect the test one way or the other. You can ask your LLMD's office or call Igenex and ask about that - www.ignenex.com
I would not bother seeing an endocrinologist until after you see your LLMD. Lyme / TBD (assuming you read all that stuff we loaded on your husand - TBD means tick-borne disease)
Lyme/TBD really cause havoc with the endocrine system - especially the adrenals and the HPA. Few endocrinologists are lyme specialists and, if lyme is the underlying reason when lyme is treated, the endocrine system gets better.
A LLMD can also treat endocrine matters - or refer you to an endocrinologist who has a firm grasp of the complexities of lyme/TBD.
As lyme/TBD is really a sub-specialty, an endocrinologist who knew all this would also be a sub-specialist. That is rare, but they are out there.
Adrenal support herbs that may help are ashwagandha, cordyceps or Siberian Ginseng (not regular ginseng, though, as that may be too excitatory for a depleted adrenal system).
You can search each of those at PubMed if you like.
Vitamin B-5 is particularly good for the adrenals. B-6 and magnesium help for calming at night . . . and B-complex with breakfast or lunch.
Fish oil/ EFAs / Omega oils, too.

With eight pages on thryoid issues alone, there is much more discussion about lyme/TBD and the endocrine system in this book -
This book, by an ILADS member LLMD, has a lot of good information:

Is your family doc an endo? If you had lyme previously and it wasn't treated properly, it can cause those symptoms as well as hormonal imbalances.
With these complex problems such as lyme and hormonal issues, I'd recommend having both an endo and a LLMD.
Test your suspicions through an Igenex western blot.
I don't think that .25 of synthroid is causing your sides....that's a very small dose of thyroid med...
