it's been 3-4 months since seeing my pcp; so he had 6 blood tests done on me this week.

A1C, 3 mo. diabetes check down to 6.9 from 7.2!! he's still NOT thrilled, but it's down again finally!

chloresterol still up...bad especially.
triglicerides 200....were 300 at one time so i remarked i have improved tremendously.

10 lb. weight loss only since he started around 1 yr. ago.

Betty, "are you sleeping?" NOPE, my days/nights for 2 solid years have been turned around.

any new sleep meds out there; yes, but they will make you worse especially since you have SLEEP APNEA!!

are you using cpap? no; i tried it for several months on several different machines. did NOT help me at all feel refreshed.

kept me more awake due to NOISE, and i have such high noise sensitivity too.

mask keeps seeping air out, and that makes louder noise.

so i need to pursue wearing cpap; have another sleep study done....no thanks; last one was $10,500 covered by insurance; or if worse comes to worse ... SURGERY!

i did talk to him about my adrenal glands; on other blood tests he ran on me....they were shown normal.

he ordered cortef or something like that; so had that done yesterday.

i can just hear my ALLERGY specialist, he wanted to see LESS OF ME...weightwise!! [cussing]

betty, I think the mask is important if you have sleep apnea. Mine finally works. You must find a mask that fits properly and is comfortable. The noise of my machine dies down as soon as I get a good seal.

I have had it for years and the machine is getting ready to burn itself up so will have to soon go in the hole and order a replacement or figure out how to have this one repaired. Get some ear plugs.

Good luck. lmt

betty,

i said it before and i'll say it again.. CPAP has played a significant role in my recovery. i certainly would not be where i am without it.

i use it 95-98% of the time. i don't leave home w/o it.. and i don't care who sees me sleeping with it.

one friend called me Snuffalufagus, call me what you want but i'm getting MUCH needed rest so my body has the ability to heal.

i'm using a Respironics Remstar Auto M Series (A-Flex) machine and a Fisher & Paykel HC405 Mask. very quiet and comfy set-up.

test several masks at a durable medical equipment facility to get a feel of what might be comfy before purchasing.

i tried the Pillow type at first but tossed it out 90 days later. also, train yourself to sleep on your back to reduce leaks.

good luck..

BettyG--

As you're probably aware, an undertreated thyroid issue can cause an elevation in cholesterol. Have you had a full endocrine panel run on your pituitary, thyroid, and adrenals?

I've cut and pasted four links below which discuss high cholesterol and low thyroid function. If you need med/journal abstracts to show your physician, then I'm sure I can find those for you..

I really feel that getting to a very good endocrinologist would be beneficial for you....

Take Care, BettyG....

bugg,

thank you for the 4 thyroid links you attached above! i read them all...

i've had UNDERACTIVE/hypothyroid i believe since 1980; 1 yr. after hubby was dx with OVERACTIVE/HYPERthyroid.

so have been on synthroid or levothyroxine since...

pcp said my thyroid blood tests were ok this time.

i'll get copies of all my blood work and medical dictation after it's done.

i'm now paying local clinic $15/yr. for ALL medical documentation, labs, xrays, etc.

also in case SSDI notifies me ... i have it as it accrues!!

BettyG--

Have you been to the two sites which are often mentioned here on lymenet....www.stopthethyroidmadness.com and www.thyroid.about.com .....

You may just want to read there about adrenals and thyroid and pituitary...very easy reading...

I'm not sure what your current symptoms are and I hope you have a great doc who is "on top" of understanding thyroid-adrenal-pituitary issues...

I was told by a couple of docs that my thyroid was fine because I was in the normal range after starting thyroid treatment and IT WASN'T....

Also, the fact that I was low in other hormones should have been a clue to me that I needed to examine possible pituitary issues as well...

I seem to recall that you said you were thirsty alot...Do you know if you're low in aldesterone???

This may be info you already know but I just wanted to make sure....

..Just want you to feel better...
