Does anyone else have this problem? I always have several bruises on my body without any recollection of bumping into anything. New ones appear at a pretty constant rate.

I am borderline anemic with babs. Does anyone know if low iron/ferritin cause easy bruising?

Thanks,
Dawn

You should have your platlets checked. Unprovoked bruising can be a sign of low platlets which can be dangerous.
My mom has this problem and has had to be hospitalized for it in the past.

Dawn,

I just am recovering from some really bad bruising. I would bruise just by grabbing on to me. I found out that my Ferritin (Iron) level was only at a 6, the reference range is from 20 to 150, my LLMD said he wants me AT LEAST around 50. I have since started Iron Gluconate supplements. Another thing you may want to have checked as well is your Vitamin K, which helps with clotting.

Good luck and you better put on your bubble suit to keep from bruising!!

I bruise very easily..but I can't for sure say what from since I carry the heomphilia gene (my son is a hemophiliac) and I seem to be asymptomatic.

I almost bled to death 1.5 yrs ago during my hysterectomy and come to find out, my hemoglobin levels were WAY too low for me to have been having major surgery.

But I have always had low iron levels. I am usually anemic although one doctor once drew blood and called me up saying that the STRANGEST thing showed up on the labs...I have EXTREMELY low iron, yet I'm not anemic.

He never got around to addressing the issue though [Roll Eyes]

So far I tested negative on Babs and Bart tests through IgeneX. But my LLMD says that doesn't mean anything.

Probably....low ferritin is essentially the front end of anemia so it makes sense that bruising would be possible.

From studies I've read, low ferritin can cause difficult symptoms even without established anemia...

I bruise really easily too and the bruise lasts forever. LLMD said it was from a weakened immune system but reading these other posts I better check this out further.

Thanks everybody for the replies!

I am still trying to up my iron levels- nothing significant happening on blood tests yet- still low low low. ~sigh~

I think I will try leaving out fish oil, allicin, and circumin for a stint to if doing so helps with the bruising.

I also bruise easily, but have normal platelets, normal ferritin, and normal hemoglobin and iron levels. Who knows? Hiker53

No, I haven't, but that's a very good thought.

Do you mean b/c of possible internal bleeding?

Wife has Iron that started at 7 now at 14 after 4 months of supplements.

Today got biospy for teting from Gi Dr, initial check was OK, but now will test for Celiac's disease/glutian intolerance.

If no sign from tests then Im gonna have to say that Lyme, babs, bart is causing this problem.

It is strange that many Lymees have very low iron.
