I forgot the girl's name who knew a lot about viruses...Timaca or something?
I've been reading forever today and I still can't find WHAT viruses react with the 30/31 kda bands?
Does anyone here know all of them? I've been trying to find out on my own but all I can find is people saying that it cross reacts with other viruses, I can't find WHICH viruses.
Also, if someone is going to say the EBV, does that mean that I would have had to contract mono in the past? I've never had it but could I be carrying it and could not have gotten sick from it? It's the mono virus, right? Or am I totally off base here?
Can someone help me with this. I know I tested positive on this band and I'm curious if I have had any of the viruses. And even at that, would those viruses cause me SUCH neuro issues and PAIN?
I am not really a fatigued person, I can't be, because I have 2 little ones in the house. If I had a choice I probably would be in bed but I don't know what that feels like - I guess everyone I've heard that suffered from EBV is chronically fatigued.
I just can't put myself in that category. Laid out from the pain, yes. Out of fatigue, I don't think so....
Edited to say: I read that 95% of the population has EBV by age 35! Is that true?

Ebstein Barr Virus..mononucleosis... severe fatigue, and if it gets bad enough, an enflamed spleen. Ive seen it plenty with high school aged kids. Its called the kissing disease, but kids can spread it just by sharing water bottles, etc. I think once you have it, it can go dormant for years, decades. Its similiar to chicken pox, shingles, zoster for recurrence, especially when immune system is weak.
Even if you have ebv, if you have lyme as well, Im not sure what you could do for the ebv.
Lyme treatment is anti biotic, and since ebv is a virus, you're looking at needing an antiviral, like encyclovir. But Im not sure if your llmd would prescribe both an abx, and an antiviral.
If your western blot bands did come back positive for lyme, Id focus on that and maybe end the search for anything else till the lyme is in check.

Just order the 30/31 confirmation test from IGeneX IF those were the only Bb specific bands that showed up on the test. If others showed up, then it likely doesn't matter and is likely indicative of Lyme. Only if those are the only 2 Bb-specific bands that showed up would it likely make sense to pursue further validation.

Nessa, I agree with SForsgren that you should get Igenex's "30-31 kDa confirmation" if you tested positive on those bands.
Igenex already has your blood from your Western Blots, so your doctor would just have to fax a request to Igenex to run those tests.
Yes, most of the population has been exposed to the EBV and HHV-6 viruses. However one does not need to have had an past active infection from these viruses to have antibodies to them. In most of the population, these viruses are merely present at a low level and are latent.
Due to immune system suppression due to lyme or other causes, many Lyme and CFS patients have reactived EBV and/or HHV-6, which becomes yet another chronic infection. That is why you should not only get the Igenex confirmation test, but should also get tested for these viruses in case they are another factor in your illness.
Focus Diagnostics is considered the premier lab for this viral testing, but you can also get these tests done through Quest or another lab.
I underwent Valcyte (antiviral) treatment under Dr. Montoya at Stanford, and my LLMD is currently treating my viral issues with olive leaf extract and takuna.

I already got the conformation test, will get the results hopefully on Sept 3.
My question (yet ANOTHER ONE, SORRY) is if these viruses can cross react with Lyme, then what if you have both? Does the viruses interfere with the fact that the positive 30/31 band might interfere with the Lyme diagnosis?
Can wait til I can see my results.

Did you have ANY other bands that are Bb specific other than 30 and 31? If yes, then the test is not helpful. You only do it if that is the ONLY bands that appeared in the results that are Bb specific.
Most people with Lyme have viruses as part of their condition as well. So if you have Lyme, you likely still have viruses that also need to be evaluated and addressed.

Well I tested positive through Labcorp with bands 41 and 23, so I've already had a cdc positive test and since I have started Rocephin, OMG, even of my "off days" (4 on, 3, off) I feel pain like I've never felt. Not fatigue. PAIN. It's like the cartelege (sp) in my ribs burn so bad, almost like the little buggers are dying and are ****ed. Then I started getting SEVERE bone pain and burning in my arms.
This never happened before treatment. So, I'm guessing it is a herx.

Nessa that burning feeling sounds like bartonella to me. Hopefully someone else will come along who can tell you more.
Sorry that you are having pain and having to go through this and I hope you feel better soon.

I have a ?
Does anyone have continuous "ripping" injuries in their muscles? Like you stretch (reach) for something, and your muscle "rips" and it's not just a temporary feelng, but you are injured for days like a pulled muscle feeling?
Or you get a muscle spasm so bad it actually "injures" you and you have pain in it for days?
Carry grocery bags and then it "rips" your muscles for days and can't even write without getting a sharp pain and weakness? Drop full cups of coffee not realizing you "injured" yourself?
Feel free to PM me. It may be the only way I will find your answer.

Yes - I have that ripping feeling in my muscles. Takes so very little to cause injury. Has improved a little over the past 2 years of antibiotics but not much.

"A Western Blot can be helpful for diagnosis. A positive diagnosis can be strongly considered by having at least one Borrelia specific band and symptoms. The Borrelia specific bands are: 18, 23/25, 30, 31, 34, 37, 39, 83 and 93.
If a band 30 or 31 shows up positive, then a viral panel should be done in order to rule out viruses such as HHV6, Cytomegalovirus, Epstein Barr, etc. A result such as this does not mean that the patient does not also have Borrelia."
Maybe these people would know more specifics if you contacted them. This group is usually right on top of the latest.
