Hi folks,
My doctor said immediate detox. I have the 4 Total Cleanse and am looking for a decent diet to go along with it.

My ammonia is up to 149 and the norm is 47 so he has ordered this detox.

Anyone have any suggestions on foods or is there a list somewhere?

I went to the Internet and mostly found items for sale.

The Total Cleanse is one the doc said is pretty good. THe best would be colonic but dont go want to go in that direction.

Thank you, Lemonhead

If you want a solid detox program that costs nearly nothing, three things: Sweat, Lemon-Olive Drink, Fasting.

I have an additional theory, that I believe would work, but it's only my theory.

Adding to that, Chelex, ALA, NAC, Glycine. This routine is especially useful for patients who can't seem to detox at all, who are experiencing profound side effects (Usually the same side effect) with almost every drug they take (Profound debilitating fatigue is common). These supplements are quite cheap, and can be purchased through Vitacost.com, which has the best prices that I've seen so far online. The Chelex must be purchased separately off a different site of your choosing.

When you're that congested, it's the liver. For someone with the severest case, a good 2-4 months of straight detox is needed. They need to remove almost all medications except the bare essentials.

First step: 3 day fast, no food, 1 gallon of fluids per day (Preferably fresh filtered or clean water, but other fluids are acceptable). The Lemon Olive drink should be done from this point onward during the entire time you detox. The three day detox formula for the Lemon Olive is heavier and harder to tolerate, but the results will be immediate. If you have gallbladder problems, sludge, stones -- this will be immensely useful.

Second Step: After fasting, eat a diet of fruits, vegetables, and lean meats. You can supplement with protein powder as well. Do this for at least a week or two. The more severe the detox issue, the longer it should be done. However, the exception is those who are low in bodyweight, or other complications of the digestive tract, where these aren't tolerable. What you eat is important, but this isn't the critical part of the detox process. Bare minimum, avoid processed foods, and sweets (Candy, or artificially sweetened foods). Splenda and Stevia are acceptable. Continue the Lemon Olive drink with the toned down version.

Third Step: The second week, you can use ALA, NAC and Glycine. Incorporate this into your diet.

Forth step: By the end of the first month, add the Chelex.

Fifth step: You may repeat the fast for 3 days, and follow step 1, Lemon Olive Flush can be redone with the intense version.

Sixth step: you can loosen up restrictions on your diet, continue using all supplements, and if strong enough, begin doing mild exercise that leads to sweating. Wearing a sweat shirt, and sweat pants is useful. If you have a heat intolerance, you can avoid this step if it's too hard on you. If you wish, you can attempt to use Infared Sauna. For those who are flat out too weak to exercise, but can still tolerate some heat, the sweating via the Infared Sauna is right up your alley.

Seventh Step: You're finished. Now you begin adding one new medication at a time. All supplements can be restarted as normal, but prescribed drugs need to be gradually raised. See how you respond to treatment. If the symptoms persist, continue doing the Lemon Olive drink, and perhaps consider the Coffee Enema, which is a last resort for major detoxification. Diet can return to normal, whatever it is you commonly ate prior to the detoxification issue. Obviously eating well is useful, so consider maintaining it.

The Lemon Olive drink consistently and constantly showed improvements in weight gain, decreased lymphnode inflammation, decreased neuropathy, as well as detoxification. Weight gain in patients who were underweight was a consistent response, and patients who are overweight, saw a consistent decrease in weight.

The secret is simple and should not be a secret at all given it's rationale:

Lemon juice triggers detoxification of the liver and kidneys.

The exterior of the rind, the yellow part, is packed with antioxidants, which of course provides nutrition and large amounts of vitamin C. This improves immunity substantially.

The pectin, or the white part, is blended down so that it is both a liquid, as well as fiberous chunks (They are small). This is both absorbed into the body, as well as stays in the G.I. system, depending on the size of the molecules or the actual "chunk" of the pectin itself. Pectin is an incredibly strong detoxifiying agent, and it protects the fruit from pathogens with it's bitter toxin absorbing shell. This protects again parasites, bacteria, viruses, fungus/mold/yeast etc. Eventually, if enough toxins are absorbed, it loses it's ability to work, thus many fruits rot, but Lemons -- note how Lemons stay good for months. Certain apples do as well, if they are high in pectin, like Green Apples.

Pectin also absorbs heavy metals inside the body, as well as in the intestinal tract.

Olive Oil: High quality cold pressed virgin olive oil which isn't heated or exposed to constant light has high antioxidant properties, provides viscosity in the blood permitting better blood flow, increases HDL cholesterol, and triggers the liver to expell bile and waste into the gallbladder, and from the gallbladder into the bowel -- where the pectin, picks up some of it, bringing it out of the body

Directions for the strong version:

1: Cut up 3 lemons, Juice them. Keep one whole rind from one lemon set aside after juicing

2: 1 cup water.

3: Place water and lemon juice from the 3 lemons and the rind from 1 lemon into blender

4: Blend on medium/high for 1 1/2 minutes (Some blenders require use of their highest speed if a weaker powered machine)

5: The lemon/water should look whitish, but still a little chunky. Take it out, and pour it into a compression strainer, or regular strainer, and press the pulp to get the liquid out. Compression strainers can be bought at your grocery store. They look like cylinders with holes at the bottom with a hand squeezing press at the top.

6: Pour liquid extracted either into the blender and add the olive oil, Use 4oz (8tbsp) of Olive Oil and blend at the highest speed of your blender for 1-2 minutes. You can add a cup of juice if you like, assuming you don't have yeast issues. You can add Stevia or Splenda if you like

7: Pour contents into a glass cup and consume

Final Notes and Options:

Beware not to take this near your medications if, or herbal therapies. It can and will bind some of these things.

There is no money to be made here. Simple lemons, a blender, strainger/compressor and olive oil, that's all it is. Most of these things you already have in your home.

Directions for the common version (Anyone can do this version, sick or not):

1: Cut up 1 lemon, juice it. Keep one half rind from one lemon set aside after juicing

2: 1 cup water.

3: Place water and lemon juice from the 1 lemon and the 1/2 rind from 1 lemon into blender

6: Pour liquid extracted either into the blender and add the olive oil, Use 1.5 oz (3tbsp) of Olive Oil and blend at the highest speed of your blender for 1-2 minutes. You can add a cup of juice if you like, assuming you don't have yeast issues. You can add Stevia or Splenda if you like

7: Pour contents into a glass cup and consume

Final Notes and Options:

Beware not to take this near your medications if, or herbal therapies. It can and will bind some of these things.

quote:

Daily dose of supplements:

NAC: 500 or 600mg x 2

ALA: 300mg x 2

Glycine 500mg x 2

Chelex two to four capsules, every 3rd night
Infared Sauna: Betterhealthguy sells a good one in my opinion.

Fasting 3 days: No food, only water, and strong lemon olive oil drink.

Water: 1 gallon per day during fast, and 1/2 your body weight in oz afterwards. I weight 180, thus 90oz

Sweating: 20mins minimum

And for those concerned about the fast causing severe weakness, be aware you're doing the Strong Lemon Olive drink the entire three days. That drink has 4oz of Olive Oil. .5 oz of Olive Oil is one serving, which has 120 calories. So that's 960 calories per day during the Lemon Olive, plus any nutrition from the lemon itself and the rind.

So that's almost 1000 calories, but it's still a fast and will still work.

Also, it's best to sleep on the side of your liver, which is the right side for everyone. Beware that nausea may occur so raise your head and upper body slightly with pillows.

You can do further research on this before doing it. There is disagreement over the exact way to finish the process. You can do an enema in the morning -- full lower bowel, or... not. The choice is yours. The enema should be done with warm water.

While certain levels of careful fasting may be helpful for some at times, fasting can trigger porphyria attacks for those who may have that condition, whether due to genetics or to secondary porphyria.

So, if severe lower abdominal pain or other neurological symptoms seem to appear out of nowhere, glucose might be needed if an emergency.

Beta carotene, or carrot juice may help prevent an attack. Even w/o excess porphyrins, the brain requires glucose in order to function. Be sure you get enough protein, carbs and fats.

In the event of a porphyria attack, glucose IV or heme products may be needed to prevent death.

Porphryia attacks happen with excess porphryins build up in the body due to deficiency of particular enzyemes of the liver's cytochrome P-450 detox pathway.

There have been several threads about this and, if interested, a search can be done on porphyria or Cytochrome P 450.

http://flash.lymenet.org/scripts/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=068905#000014

is one of the more recent threads with links about porphyria.

Lemonhead - Total Cleanse sounds good but I cannot say enough good things about colonics.

I have been having them for years - sometimes weekly, sometimes monthly, sometimes bi-monthly depending on what's going on with me.

If you find someone good, it is truly amazing [Wink]

METALLIC BLUE,

Thank you for posting this.

I am not doing well and I've only had 18 capsules of 100mg Doxy during the last 10 days.

This is the only ABX that I have had in 5 years.

I am unable to take my AM dose today.

Funny thing is I have always been a fairly intuative eater... crave celery = eat celery, crave chocolate = eat chocolate...

During this past year I have very often craved my Penne Pasta Caesar Salad

The dressing is: lemon Juice, olive oil and garlic.

The romaine lettuce: Vit K & A and Hydration.

(But perhaps too much of this may have contributed to my T.I.A. in April ? I was eating a lot of this then - who knows?)

And Keebler, I believe that the pasta helped with my porphyrin issues.

WOW !

Suppose I need to DETOX A.S.A.P., huh?

Now I have to find a place with a sauna.

Thank You !

Yes, frequent meals that include healthy carbs can help decrease excess porphyrins.

GLYCINE is EXCELLENT for that, too.

Note, though, if you have a genetic porphyria, during an acute attack, emergency care may be needed. IV glucose or a heme product can save a life in that case.

And, if you do have a genetic porphryria be VERY careful with detox measures. Detox is vital, but too fast or too harsh puts further strain on the liver and can trigger a porphyria attack.

LOW HEAT Saunas are best. Far Infrared types. Regular saunas can be too hot and put too much stress on the heart and liver.

are you using the gluten-free penne ?

Trader Joe's has one that is also organic.

Other stores may carry another gluten-free brand: Tinkyada. They also have many types of gluten-free pasta. Some is organic; some not. Be sure to check label.

Just be sure to balance protein/carbs/oils.

Anyone who decides to follow what I've laid out, please report your results. Remember to be safe. This protocol should be uncomfortable, but not debilitating or lead to symptoms flaring up. If you feel more than uncomfortable, stop that part of the routine which is causing that issue.

Thank you again.

Lyme - I know diddly squat but the Porphyrias - a great deal.

I'm still not sure what I have.

Was told, last year, by my Gastro: an acute - (do mainstream medicos really accept any type other than genetic?) - either VP or AIP.

Made a lot of sense but still didn't sit quite right.

Lived as if I had an acute Porphyria - did not get better - only worse.

Been learning ever since.

Testing has been a complete farce - an utter joke.
Talk about Lab errors !

But primed me well for this TBI crap.

One difference: at least a FEW doctors are willing to pursue the Porphyria - it seems to intrigue them - it's "rarity" - ha!

Nope, regular pasta - usually Barilla

I have been too ill to get to the "new" Trader Joes that opened here, several years ago.

I MUST try soon.

Hold the phone I was about to call the health club to inquire their fees...

regular sauna = not good?

What/Where infra-red, then ?

METALLIC BLUE, no worries here - I heed my body well.

i think that sounds like a gallbladder cleanse. i asked my doctor about it and because i've had my gallbladder out and have mild pancreas issues, he told me to never, ever do that cleanse.

it's just too much fat for me to handle...
