I have been having a major flare of something since mid June. Just got my Igenex results and am positive for Lyme and Babs. I've actually had it for 5 years I now know but just now getting diagnosed and to LLMD next Monday.
Last time I was in this much all-over body pain 4 and 5 years ago, my eyes eventually dried up like a dessert. Now it is happening again. Is this from the Lyme? the Babs? Does this show that I need to carefully watch eye health because inflammation (uveitis) could be next? Is this connected at all to the giant floater in my right eye? My right eye is much more irritated and likely to become painful (like right now) at day's end when I've been reading and computering all day.
I've also become completely intolerant to straight Vitamin A over the last 3 years. It makes me vision completely out of whack, anyone else have this problem? (Of course I'm intolerant to almost all foods and recently some antibiotics as well.)

Hey there,
Sorry to hear you are having eye problems. I'll tell you what I tell others... just cause I am a "safety kind of gal".
We don't mess with two things here. Heart and eyes. Please go to a good eye doctor for a check up. Vision is a hard thing to be without... especially when driving.
You said... "... my eyes eventually dried up like a dessert. Is this from the Lyme? the Babs?"
Many reports say Lyme can cause this problem.. and many people with Lyme do have very dry eyes. You need to have it checked and address it.
You said.. "Does this show that I need to carefully watch eye health because inflammation (uveitis) could be next?"
Yes. You need to be careful and pay attention. But I am ordering you to NOT be worried. (please) You are knowing a lot and you will get it addressed if there is a problem. OK?
You said... "Is this connected at all to the giant floater in my right eye? My right eye is much more irritated and likely to become painful (like right now) at day's end when I've been reading and computering all day."
It could be. If the floater doesn't move.. or float.. it could indicate inflammation and needs to be addressed immediately. Think "mutton fat".
You said.. "I've also become completely intolerant to straight Vitamin A over the last 3 years."
I had a chiropractor. One day I told him if I bend my arm back in this specific position, it really hurts.
He told me to not bend my arm in that position any more. That will be $25.00 please.
Funny guy!
Point being.. If you feel bad taking it, don't. I don't know why this is happening... but the lesson is to listen to your body and do what it says.
May I suggest?
Keep on a good protocol for inflammation if you are having these eye problems.
Good luck and I hope all works out with the LLMD. Please lettuce know. We care.

Hey Tincup, Don't know if you'll see this, but Thanks! I did talk to the eye doc and got a sample of Restasis that I used before. Next week I'll have an extra eye check.
The biggest problem I'm having this week is that the floater in my right eye is so large now that I continually have to move my head or eye to see around it. A large part of it is thin, but it makes my vision blurry--very annoying. I don't suppose there is anything to break it up. I'll check with my LLMD at my first visit on Monday and the eye doc next week just in case. Carol

Is Restasis okay to use?
I was Rx'd it last year but was concerned as i thought it was a type of steroid, and I think it's warnings say not to use if you have an active eye infection (and I figured that my Lyme/Babs eye symptoms probably indicated the infection was in my eyes).
Make sure you go to a good Ophthalmologist who knows about Uveitis and ocular inflamation. I have uveitis, caused by inflamation from Lyme disease. I went to 4 different docs, one of them did not catch this. Always get a second opinion or more, your eyes are nothing to mess with.

I agree a LL eye specialist is best to consult. If you don't have a LLMD, perhaps the closest on to you could still give you a name.
And members of your local support group, too, might help with names.

you said you can no longer take " straight Vitamin A"
Do you mean synthetic or natural (beta carotene)?
Beta Carotene is supposed to be excellent as is taurine, for eye health.
Of course, if you can't handle it, I'd not push it. But if the form you can't take is synthetic, that could explain a lot. Synthetic vitamins are not ideal and can have very different reactions from vitamins in the more natural forms.
They are not the same, even if pharmaceutical manufacturers want you to think so.

I do still have one question then with all of this: Why a lyme literate eye doc. As long as he is excellent--and takes me seriously--won't he find uveitis??
Keebler, Yes, it is synthetic only of the A that bothers me. Beta carotene is fine.
Meg, Interesting. Bart keeps coming up for some other symptoms as well. Can't wait to see the LLMD (first time) tomorrow!!!
Brent, That is good advice. I have a great eye doctor, but I'm sure he knows nothing about Lyme and the seriousness of this.
