I hated Plaq...had sides right away with it. I tolerate Biaxin very well but it didn't seem to work for me....

i just started it, but am also taking 200mg of minocycline a day, and this combo has me herxing pretty bad. I'm going to stick with it and hope if this herx lets up that this combo may be a good one for me.

but so far, its to early to tell. I've read many good results with this combo thats why I wanted to get on it, but clearly everyone is different.

It's a tough combo BUT if you can tolerate it, I think it does a lot of killing.

My Mother's Lyme got better (never to relapse) on 18 mos of Biaxin/Plaquenil (she had Lyme her whole life).

Time-frames vary but I don't think 2 mos is long enough for you to call it quits with this combo.

If you have coinfections, though, this will not hit those!

I'd stick with it for the Lyme, though.

Best,

I'm on this combo too plus minocycycline. It's making me sick as a dog but it was a good recommnedation as being effective.

Clarissa- I have co-infections of CPN and Myco, possibly Babs...what are some other drug alternatives for these? My LLMD tried putting me on levaquin for myco and cpn and I couldn't tolerate it.

Thanks

The macrolides, Biaxin, Zith have gram neg capabilities, which mean they can hit Bart. If you go to www.pubmed.com there are a ton of abstracts on biaxin and zith killing bart.

Also at pubmed the macrolides and tetracyclines keep lyme from going into cyst form.

I have been on biaxin a very long time and bart is gone and HGE also disappeared. HME hangs on. It it is known for hitting L form...you are hitting 2 forms right now, if you added a beta lactam such as amoxi or omnifef or or anohter abx like it, you would be killing all 3 forms of Lyme - cystic, L-from & cell wall defiicent.

2 months is not enough time to tell if this combo is working, 90 days minimum on any combo according to my ILADS LLMd.

If you have Babesia it should be treated first with mepron/zith or mepron/biaxin - if insurance doesn't cover mepron Dr. H ILADS LLMD in NYC says use malarone.

If Biaxin doesn't take out Ehrlichia if you have it, zith might since its gram neg capabilities are even stronger than Biaxin's. But Mino, Rifampin or Doxy would work for sure on this co-infection.

If you switch anything, switch plaq to flagyl it is a cyst buster and is believed to kill all co-infections and even Babs according to some LLMd's.

Hope you feel better soon.

Take care.
