This is something I am unsure of. I have been on ABX for 3 weeks. I will start Nystantin next

week, after 1 week of no sugar...per Dr. C. Currently, I only take two probiotics

daily...but my guess is this is not enough.

Okay...that is exactly what I am doing now. I take it about 3 hours after each ABX.

I usually take three different ones during the course of the day, as far away from abx as possible.

They are: renew life, critical care (50 billion-15 strain), iflora professional strength, 20 billion-16 strain) and Theralac at bedtime.

I thought I read it is good to have a variety of different strains. L-Acidophilous and Biodifidea.. or whatever they are!

It depends upon the brand you are taking.

With Theralac, one a day is enough. Others, you might need as many as 6. So you really can't compare apples to oranges.

What brand are you taking?

TuTu-

I'm curious, is one Theralac a day enough if you have no appendix to store some & repopulate the intestines after a dose of ABX (when taking multiple doses)?

[confused]

When I was on abx, I took Theralac (1 per day) and Ultra Flora (3 per day), both high dose probiotics. When my GI issues were bad, I also took VSL#3, which has 450 billion organisms.

For the first year, I needed VSL#3 daily. After a while, every other day would do. Then after some more time passed, I could take it once per week.

Thanks everyone.

Lymetoo, I am taking Country Life Power-Dophilus. It contains: Lactobacillus rhamnosus
(4.2 billion),

Lactobacillus adicophilus (3.6 billion) Bifidobacterian lactis (3 billion), and

Bifodobacterium longum (1.2) billion.

One or two VSL#3 every day, a soil-based probiotic formula, chewable acidophilus.

I would go for about 20 billion per day minimum. Take as much as you can afford ( and that your body can handle ).

Is this one refrigerated?

Hi Tutu,

Yes, it is refrigerated.

Does it depend which 'one' the 20 billion come from??? Adding it all together, I'm taking 12

billion now...so maybe double it up and see how I do??
I really appreciate your help.

Havefaith, I personally don't think that's enough. I think you need at least 50 billion a day...

Lymielauren, I agree its not only the billions, but number of strains thats really important.

My total is 90-100 billion in a given day with up to 16 strains.

...alternating from a.m. to p.m. as far away from abx as possible!

Thanks all, I think I'll double up for a week, see how I do, and then increase from there.
