My husband was bit by a deer tic and did not totally remove the tic's head. He has symptoms of Lymes(joint pain, loss of energy)but refuses to be checked. The bite was over one year ago, and he itches the raised reddish white bump constantly. Furthermore, he has developed three additional itchy bumps, which look similar to his "mother bite"; and he has a peculiar smell to his skin. If he refuses to be examined and treated, I am concerned that this tic may have laid eggs or that I might possibly be at risk for contacting a bacterial infection through sexual intercourse. I hope you have some insight for me. Sincerely, Susan

The jury is out on whether it is sexually transmitted. We just don't know either way.
How do you know he didn't get the head out? Deer ticks are so small! Anyway, at this point I believe it would be long since dead. I also don't believe the head would be able to reproduce.
I don't know what the spots are on your husband's arm, but rashes and other various skin disorders are common with Lyme.

I wouldn't be worrying about yourself at this point... I'd be more worried about him!!!
Lyme (NOT lymes) is nothing to mess around with... It can get as bad as putting people in wheelchairs, having them become paralyzed, heart problems, cognitive issues, etc. And the longer you let it go, the worse it will get.

Sent you a pm (albeit one in which I made the assumption that your husband's Lyme was still in its acute stage--sorry. It doesn't really change the truth of my assertions, though.)

Susan,
If you are using your real name for your web name and signature, I highly recommend changing that for security reasons. It could come up even if someone does a google search on your name.
-------
The remainder of the tick is likely not "alive" but the infection can continue to grow. In some of the eastern European countries they routinely surgically remove a tick and all the area around it so as not to leave any infected tick tissue.
Your husband should see a LLMD and have that surgically removed in the doctor's office and the tissue sent for testing ASAP.
It should be a LLMD, educated in the ILADS' research and testing procedures. Not just any doctor will do.
When you call for an appt. be sure to tell them of this. Perhaps he could get in right away for that. It should not wait any longer.
Not all ticks are infected but the continued irritation is a signal to attend to it.
CONTROVERSY CONTINUES TO FUEL THE "LYME WAR" By Virginia Savely, RN, FNP-C

As two medical societies battle over its diagnosis and treatment, Lyme disease remains a frequently missed illness. Here is how to spot and treat it.
Excerpts:
" . . .To treat Lyme disease for a comparable number of life cycles, treatment would need to last 30 weeks. . . ."
`` . . .Patients with Lyme disease almost always have negative results on standard blood screening tests and have no remarkable findings on physical exam, so they are frequently referred to mental-health professionals for evaluation.
"...If all cases were detected and treated in the early stages of Lyme disease, the debate over the diagnosis and treatment of late-stage disease would not be an issue, and devastating rheumatologic, neurologic, and cardiac complications could be avoided..."
. . . * Clinicians do not realize that the CDC has gone on record as saying the commercial Lyme tests are designed for epidemiologic rather than diagnostic purposes, and a diagnosis should be based on clinical presentation rather than serologic results.
- FULL ARTICLE AT LINK ABOVE.
Co-infections (other tick-borne infections or TBD - tick-borne disease) are not discussed in the Savely article due to space limits. Still, any LLMD you would see would know how to assess/treat if others are present.

Attorney General Richard Blumenthal today announced that his antitrust investigation has uncovered serious flaws in the Infectious Diseases Society of America's (IDSA) process for writing its 2006 Lyme disease guidelines and the IDSA has agreed to reassess them with the assistance of an outside arbiter.
You should also be evaluated for coinfections. Not all tests are great in that regard, either, but a good LLMD can evaluate you and then guide you in testing. One of the top labs is:

poster's note: while few get well without attention to nutrition and supporting the liver and adrenals with specific supplements, anyone considering complementary approaches should be sure to have first read the abx protocol for a better grasp of the task at hand.
Basic, supportive herbs to "get the body stronger" are NEVER enough to get over lyme or coinfections. Very specific attention must be paid to the nature, life-span and forms of each tick-borne disease (TBD).
Each infection is treated differently and it is no minor undertaking. It is best to seek guidance with skilled professionals who are truly lyme and TBD literate. They will know, specifically, how to proceed.

I have had two Lyme literate doctors tell me Lyme disease can be sexually transmitted. Not all doctors agree with this idea but there has not been enough research done yet to know for sure.
I would practice safe sex. You can research salvia because lyme spirochetes can be found in semen and salvia.

I also heard that it is possible to be transferred sexually. I went to the Lyme disease conference a couple years ago and a few of the Drs. seemed to think it is possible.
Susan, too.

Lets see....Dr Burgdorpheri (the one that actually identified the Lyme Spirochete)....caught Lyme from the splash of urine that came from an infected Rabbit.
Rumor is...that urine was COLD and expected to be benign....ie; contain dead spirochetes.
Well, if Dr B can catch it that way...I wouldn't trust the sperm or saliva from ANY infected person.
I believe that this crap is HIGHLY contagious as an STP.(But I'm NOT a Doctor.)

80% of the American population is infected with Lyme, yet not everyone gets ill. It is definitely passed on, just hand on mouth, hand on table, next person comes by and picks it up. But, someone with a sound immune system will not get sick. This comes from a scientist who has done years of research. They are not allowed to send material from one lab to the other by regular courier!
I infected my husband and he got just as sick as I was. The stress taking care of me, dressing, bathing met, etc. finally got to him until he was just as bad as I was.
Do not take a chance!

yes, I believe it can be transmitted sexually. Ihad it very badly and got treated, but my exhusband never would go get diagnosed and is now paralyzed , can barely speak, in and out of the hospital and is expected to die. IKNOW he got it from me sexually.
my son got it from me in utero..he was diagnosed when he was six..but had all the symptoms since birth..I just didnt' catch them until I was diagnosed after 16 years
my answer isyes

I had an itchy area on one leg which I never understood until years later when I saw & removed a tick from the other leg, same area above the knee. Well, that other leg also itched intensely for ages in the area where the tick had been, even though neither area had anything that was visible - no rash, no bump, just normal skin. Both itchy areas stopped itching afer I became more seriously ill from Lyme and eventually got to an LLMD.
I also believe it could be transmitted via any bodily fluids - after reading the literature about spirochetes, how can one not believe that could happen?!
