I am just stopping antibiotics after two full years of treatment with them. I am looking forward to the break and hope I can maintain the 90% recovery from lyme and it's coinfections.
My Lyme Practioner has prescribed diflucan for 30 days for any yeast that might be still in my body. I have taken diflucan before for short term (eight days) with little problem.
Is there anyone out there with experience of taking it for longer (30 days)?? It's one tablet 100mg daily.
I'm not experiencing any yeast issues currently so I'm wondering if it's even neccesary at this point.

Hi Barb,
I did a 30 day round of Diflucan followed by one time weekly at present.Mine was /is a 200mg dose.
I was not symptomatic for yeast and have not been to date. I tolerated the diflucan well although it can raise liver enzymes.
No problems here. Hope that this helps. Good luck!

I can't believe after two years of abx you aren't any having yeast issues. That is a good sign your immune system is strong. Unfortunately, I'm very prone to yeast.
I just posted a thread about yeast...I have taken diflucan for 7 months straight every day, but I haven't had liver enzymes checked. I have also tried to support liver function with things like NAC, Vit C, milk thistle, etc.
If you don't have any symptoms, I wouldn't even bother taking it. But as a preventative measure it seems like this short amount of time is ok.

I'm on my third month using Flucanazole, which is generic Diflucan. It's done little to help my yeast problem (yet). I keep hoping for better results.
Yes - been tested many times for other things - still labs come back as Candidasis.
Doc did check liver enzymes - were okay.
Keep pushing those Probiotics - you never know.

You know what is rather interesting? I had white tongue almost since the time I became ill. Had antibiotics and antifungals....but, it was not until I was tested for viral infections and began taking an antiviral, that the white tongue just about went away.
More stress on the immune system, more breakdown, hence more yeast as well.

Diflucan does not even work on every kind of candida so to me this Rx is rather strange but I am sure your NP knows what she is doing. Maybe your NP suspects yeast even though you are not having symptoms.
Two weeks of Diflucan did nothing for my yeast but I think goldenseal might be helping finally.

My doc recommends a new Zealand herb labeled Kolorex, not sure if anyone has used it?

My LLMD says Diflucan does go after lyme (as well as yeast). I think this is a great thing to do for your recovery. Research is promising on Diflucan treating lyme. The lyme bacteria and yeast/fungi are very similar. It's just another angle to come at the lyme (if you still have it). If you don't, it shouldn't hurt anything to take it for a month.
Will be interesting to see if you experience any Herx type reaction. I have been on Fluconozale on and off for about 6 weeks now (doc has me alternate with abx). When I first took it, a day or so later I was SO TIRED with exhaustion - very notable. Just lasted a few hours and nap did the trick, but definitely some kind of herx reaction. Had that happen twice. I generally do not have fatigue with my lyme.
Fluconozale also "controls" my lyme symptoms (which are mild) as well as my abx does, so for me it definitely seems to go after the lyme.
The liver enzyme issue tends to be more of a problem if you take it long term, but of course you should keep an eye on things!
