my underwire has a large metal rod in it, course most do.
but when i'm sitting down i feel it's pressing on that liver area and it hurts.
is this possible that the metal in it can cause damage or pain?

I would most definitely think so. My understanding is they can also interfere with energy flow.
I try to avoid them now.
I had to discreetly take mine off in a movie theater one night as it was causing so much pain.

They can constrict lymph flow, and the left side/breast/armpit is a major lymph drainage path.
Try sports support, or wireless (hard to find, though...usually have to pay full price in a dept. store).

I was going to say, yes, it makes sense especially since most of us have rib soreness/pain. I think that the underwires would poke or feel tight against your ribs which could cause them to hurt more.

Energetically with ART, they often test very poorly - people tend to react to metals and they can be a source of ongoing ANS stress.

On any first visit with Dr. K. or doctors of that kind - it is recommended not to wear a metal/wire bra. In fact I reacted to it allergically. It was the first thing that came off for me because it resonated with all other metals in my mouth, my brain, and my body. Now, because I am quite well, I wear them again because they feel better. But if you have any heavy metal problem, it is not a good idea, until you clear the bulk of them out. That is the advice I got and it worked in my favor.

Most people are allergic to nickel and the just don't know it. Many alloys and metalic substances used in eye glasses, belt buckels, jewelry, and dental appliances contain nickel.
Yet another thing to worry about.

Make sure you are wearing the right size... If it is the wrong size it can defintely hurt.
I also know anywhere i have pain or am sore already putting pressure on it (wire/no wire) makes it worse. Since my spine has been hurting so much I just stopped wearing bras for the time being.
Just so you know it is possible to take the wire part out of many wire bras, especailly if they are not the heavy lined/push up padded kind... you can just usually undo a stitch or make a little slit at the outer edge...
and pull the wire piece out. You can put a stitch back in if you wish.

Hi, I agree with Azure Wish, make sure you are wearing the right size. Go to get fitted and you can try these websites for bras that are in your size and some don't have underwire. I don't know if its anything as complicated as an insidious metal allergy or electromagnetic issue, but rather that underwires are just simply uncomfortable to most women for a variety of reasons, and of course that is amplified in lyme patients.
Make sure that you've been fitted well and are wearing the proper size and type of bra. If you are especially large busted, it may seem impossible to go into the local department store and buy a high quality bra without an underwire, bu there are designs that I'm told work. Bra Smyth imports a lot of high end bras from other countries, as they are generally considered superior and through design can sometimes provide the same amount of support as an underwire, without one.
I'm not a woman, but just about every woman I've known has found that underwires range between uncomfortable and painful. I'm at a little bit of a disadvantage on this topic, as I'm relaying second hand information, but I hope it helps.

JC Penny has a fairly new brand called Ambrielle that includes a wireless full figured bra. I've worn them for over a year now and would never go back to an under-wire. They're comfortable and offer quite a bit of support. They run around $30 depending on the sale at the time.
They also have fit specialists that will fit you for free.
I wold definately recommend checking out that site for the bra and girdle factory in NJ.
I shop there, and they are excellent especially for women who are not standard bra sizes.
I personally don't think that there is anything that could make an underwire bra comfortable for a large breasted woman. But I do think that the farther away from the "painful" end of the scale, the better.
Also, from my experience, (and I too am on the busty side) no matter how gently you care for a bra, they just don't seem to last much longer than 3 months or so.

I was noticing that underwires have become uncomfortable for me letely, too. I've worn them for wenty years and now they seem painful.
I guess I'm in the market for some new bras now.

Wacoal bras are the best. I know which size fits me best. I will NOT give up my underwire, and I find they are not uncomfortable.
The bras run about $60 in the store (I cannot find my size usually). If I visit eBay, do a search of Wacoal and my size, I can find a new bra (with tags) for about $20.

with wire, i think the main concern for me would be lymph flow blockage.
that can effect your health considerably, particularly if you have infection and toxic issues. the area the underwire constricts is important to the entire flow system.
thanks for the reference on a non-wire that feels like wire. i hate to be dragging around..

My wife wont use anything with wires or plastic supports in them.

The metal hooks on the back of my bra bother me lately. They make my skin itch and I am sure I am allergic to them. They feel toxic. They do not put enough fabric under them.
I would like to live in the tropics and wear a bathing suit most of the day instead.

I can't stand underwire bras and haven't been able to wear them for years. Even before I contracted lyme, I still couldn't wear them. Nothing about hanging my boobs up on a hanger seemed pleasant to me anyways
I wear sports bras as well. I TRIED wearing underwire bras a few times since having lyme, and OMG the freaking pain. My boobs hurt constantly so that wasn't a good idea.
I hope you find the right sizes in sports bras you need. My boobs are so tiny, I could wear my daughters training bras
