Please help me. Two nights now in the past week have been awful. Every time I close my eyes and start drifting off to sleep, I get a sensation that I'm floating and it wakes me up with a startle! The first night this happened, I threw up 5 times in the night and then felt okay by morning. Last night it happened again...this time I didn't throw up or feel sick, but I couldn't sleep for half the night due to this scary, strange floating sensation. I was fine if I had my eyes open and so I laid there most of the night with my eyes wide open. I'm into my sixth month of treatment now for babs duncani and lyme. I'm taking Mepron, zithromax, artimisinin and ceftin currently. Could this be a side effect from one of the drugs I'm on or is this a lyme or coinfection thing? Oh yeah, I haven't been treated for them yet, but I also have erlichia and even though I have a negative blood test for bartonella, my lyme doctor is beginning to suspect that I may have symptoms of that as well. Any thouhts?

What are you doing for detox? Maybe some chlorella might help. Sounds like it could be from toxins since you've been on treatment for a while and it's only now showing up.

I had /have all coinfections and I had that sensation and have it before and during treatment.

I feel is due to high toxicity in my body .Before I did not know what I had and now when I am in the middle of the HERX I feel it the most!!!

sixgoofykids,

I guess I'm not really doing much of anything to detox. What should I be doing? The only thing I do is drink an occassional lemon water. So you think this might be from toxins from the drugs?

No, I think it's the toxins from killing the bacteria and protozoa.

Some kind of binder - chlorella, charcoal, pectin - is a help to bind toxins so they can be eliminated.

If your bowels are not moving a couple times per day, Magnesium Malate,

Lots of water.

That's a good start. I also have used coffee enemas, parsley, burbur, ALA, NAC, etc.

You might also bring it up with your doctor .... but reducing toxins has helped me a lot. Killing the bugs is not enough, you also have to eliminate them.

I have had the exact same thing!

for me I think it was like a vertigo type thing.

maybe try some Meclizine before you go to bed.

Meclizine helps with motion sickness.

You can buy it at the pharmacy. Probablly where the motion sickness meds are.

Good luck,
Melissa

I could only read the first line or two of your post, but

Yes, it sounds to me, too, like an inner ear sensation. I have that all the time. I have some inner ear conditions that are connected to lyme and some that are not, but inner ear stuff is very common for those with lyme.

It can be from too much of a toxin overload as the inner ear is one of the first things in the body to sense toxins.

Ginger capsules or ginger tea helps me. If it progresses, you might want to see a LL ENT or neurotologist, but one referred by your LLMD.

Focus on your feet, or deep within your belly button to bring your aware down and to stay grounded, so to speak.

In addition to liver support and GENTLE detox measures or heavy metal support (chorella, garlic) B-6 might help, especially if you are taking minocycyline. It may also help if you are not, though.

Magnesium, too, is excellent.

If you can raise the head of your bed - or get wedge pillow - to a 20-30 degree angle, that is the position that helps the inner ear circulation the most.

Thank you. If it's the inner ear thing, have I done damage or will it go away when the toxins are dealt with? This is all so scary!

Should my LLMD have prescribed me a toxin binder? She hasn't even talked to me about detox.
Do your lyme doctors prescribe these things for you automatically or only if you start having toxin issues?

I have had the SAME "floating" experience. It was just before I got DX with Lyme (since I also got abx for dental work I can't for sure say if the floating experience was or was not caused by abx"

It has gone away now, but boy... was I freaked out! It's not a fun sensation.
Just wanted to let you know that I've been there.

The toxin binders mentioned here are available at health food stores. Some LLMD's address toxins some don't.

I also have the same thing I believe it has to do with my vertigo.

My ent said it has to do with the toxins and would reevaluate me if i was still having problems after I had some more lyme treatment

Ears, Nose and Throat specialist.

A neurotologist is someone who has received additional neurological training.

Vestibular means the entire inner/middle ear/balance field.

Whatever type of vestibular specialist you might see, I would not waste your time unless they were referred by a LL specialist.

While not everything is lyme, for patients with lyme, a doctor simply can't be thorough unless that doctor really knows what symptoms are caused or made worse by lyme and which ones are not.

And, if they know all about lyme/TBD, they will know which medicines can work with the treatment and which ones to avoid.

Sometimes, vertigo can be from other things - circulation, blood sugar highs or lows, adrenal dysfunction, etc., And, sometimes, a MRI might be of help. But your LLMD should be able to best guide you.

The VEDA link above can help sort out some of that. There is also one type of vertigo for which a particular maneuver can help. In the links above, you can see the EPLEY maneuver. It only works for one type but you can read more there.

I scanned everyone else's responses but didn't read them thoroughly.

Actually, what I think you COULD be experiencing is just a Herx. Even though it seems unlikely given that you have been on this medicine for so long....who knows? Are you taking fat with the Mepron? Maybe that night you just happened to take the right combo of something at the right time to cause a lot of killing. You don't take CoQ10, Vit E supplements, or Alpha Lipoic Acid with Mepron, right? (they interfere with Mepron's absorption) Because maybe if you "skipped" that night, the Mepron was finally kicking in.

I have vomited after taking Mepron from Herxes. I don't think it was from the medicine upsetting my stomach, I believe I was just literally that infectious that the killing induced vomiting.

Did you throw up five times sort of in a row, or were they spaced out over a long period of time? Because during my Mepron Herxes I would vomit a couple times, but it would be within 10 minutes of each other.

The spacy feeling could also be due to a strong Herx.

I am just throwing that out there because no one else suggested it and if it happened to me, I might suspect a Herx.

Did you start the artemisinin recently?

Do you take anything to help with sleep? That could have caused the floating sensation also.

Listen to your intuition though......I think people can intuitively tell when they are super-toxic, when infections are flaring, or when they are killing things.

Here is another thought: Maybe now that your babesia is getting under control, your bartonella is coming out of hiding. The "floating sensation" could be due to Bartonella.

This is just speculation. I say that because I have been on Mepron for over 3 months, and I am just NOW starting to get these creepy Bartonella symptoms I have never had before. I think it's because my babesia is finally disappearing. I am not having the symptom you describe, however.

Keebler, thank for the information on ent's.

Also, Hoosier51,

Thanks for the information, as well. I really don't know what's going on. I don't really think it's a herx, but I don't know for sure. This will be my sixth month on Mepron and I've been on artimisinin that whole time period as well.

I suppose it could be bart symptoms startin to come out. Does bart cause these strange floating sensations? It's weird that it's only when I'm about to fall asleep. So far, I haven't had the sensation when I'm fully awake at all.

I do have this strange pressure/tightness in the top of my head and on the roof of my mouth/ behind my nasal bone that I haven't had much of after it went away with treatment...now it's back today. I don't know whether to think it's a herx or if my antibiotics aren't working well and my symptoms are starting to come back. Uggg!

Check out "depersonalization." I believe Bart causes this symptom, and I believe some describe it as a feeling of floating outside your body.

However, based on what you just said, maybe it could be sinus related as well.

Your guess is probably as good as mine. Hope you find some answers.

My Biaxin herx coupled with steaming citronella oil caused chronic vertigo in me.

None the less I still took it according to my LLMDs advice.

Its been 4 years and I still have chronic vertigo.

I used to only get it ocasionally with exposure to mold.

Its very depressing. Ive spent thousands to try and get relief. Nothing seems to be working anymore.

I cant even fold my hands anymore. Its too uncomfortable.
