I have been on 1000mg biaxin, 600mg rifampin and doxy (was 300mg, now down to 100) per day for about a year now. and artemisinin every now and then when feeling bad. Feeling better, and starting to go down on the doxy.
other things happened too, not going into all of it but two months ago I had surgery and was on IV antibiotics for a week.
anyway, last week i started feeling horrible. feverish, flu-like. thursday I went to a clinic with shortness of breath, chest pain, thought i was having heart failure or severe gerd.
then thursday night my husband, who had been coming down with a cold, got a really sore throat. friday he went to the clinic and his quick strep came back pos and they gave him penecillin.
he asked them about me and my chest pain, but they said since I was on so much abx, i couldn't get strep.
today my throat started getting really sore. it is beet red on one side, and little blisters are starting (no white spots yet)
if I have been on these abx for a year, do I need something stronger now if I have strep? my regular dr wont give me anything, says I am on enough.
my fever is only 99.5-100 but i feel awful, and having joint pain now too.
i know its possible that its a virus and his test was wrong and they just gave him the penecillin just in case to be safe.
but if its strep and I am having joint pain and chest pain, I know that is really bad. my throat is so sore it kills to swallow. I put lidocaine on it and took vicodin.

Why don't you go get checked out, maybe it's not strep. I believe a test would at least let you know whether it is or is something else.

Get a strep test. Don't tell them anything about your current abx. Then call your LLMD if you have it and ask him what you can take or change. (That's what I'd do)

The strep test is a throat culture. Different than a blood test, they check for the actual bacteria.
I'd get the test so you have the info for your LLMD tomorrow. It takes time for the throat culture anyway.
When we thought I might have strep, my LLMD thought we'd have to rotate abx to treat it. I ended up not having it.

Abx are very specific. The abx you list would not fight strep that I am aware of. I had strep every year of my life growing up and I was always prescribed ammoxycillan. Last year, I got strep again and again was prescribed ammoxycillan so apparently that is still the drug of choice.
I had been taking doxy for 2 yrs prior to that strep.
