After I get done with my i.v., I start treatment for Bart. I have a few questions:
Does Zithro and Rifampin hit the Lyme also or is it just for Bart?
I go off of i.v. in another week. I was rxd Flagyl to go along with the Rocephin. My llmd did not make it clear if I were to stop the Flagyl when I start my Bartonella protocol or not. Does anyone here know if I should stop the Flagyl when I start my other protocol?
How come all antibiotics don't hit all of the bacteria in your body the same? It seems like they all should do about the same thing. My family and I were wondering this.
I called my llmd's office days ago to ask them this but no call back. I'm hoping you can help me.
Another question I didn't get to ask, while I'm on here, I'll ask you guys: I need to have tubes put in my ears. Are there any risks with being on those 2 oral antibiotics if I have surgery? Of course, I will ask him before, just wanted to have an idea ahead of time.

Some Doc's, mine included, believe that Zith hits a little bit of everything: babesia, lyme, and bart.

A macrolide such as Zithromax is effective (according to most leading LLMD's) against most TBI's
Ask your surgeon about the abx during surgery....I never had problems with surgery/abx.

A certain antibiotic isn't going to be effective against EVERY bacteria(because they have different cell walls, etc.)....and then there are bacteria that are resistant to certain antibiotics also.
This is why in normal infections they do a culture and sensitivity to see which antibiotic works the best against the bacteria.
I think because B. burgdorferi is so difficult to culture it has the ID doc's all confused and just plain not wanting to treat it.
This is only my opinion, but since they can't see it on a piece of paper from the lab...they just can't accept the fact that there IS an infection that needs to be treated.
Another thing they do, is culture to see if there is "no growth" ...this tells them that the antibiotic is working....something else they CAN'T do w/lyme....maybe someday....
I'm taking this combo to treat bartonella, and my LLMD did not prescribe a cyst buster (Flagyl, Plaquenil) to go with it. I think they are only useful when you are killing borrelia spirochetes, as those can morph into cysts. Bartonella, as far as I know, cannot hide the way borrelia does.
